This is not a add submarines topic. But what if they where added? What tiers would each submarine be at?

They would be PvE if any are implemented at all.

 

Super Spoiler:

 Apparently April fools may have a "submarine" then again it was posted by TAP so 50/50 chance it is true if that.

That's impossible to say since we have no base line to compare against. WG could fudge whatever numbers they want for whatever tier they want.

Even the fastest sub is still slower than most battleships. The match would be over or decided long before they reached the fight, and that's with late-WWII subs, early WWI subs at the low tiers would be like trying to do a lap of the Nurburgring one a bicycle.

A submarine even on the surface, may have a signature radius of only 2 to 3km.  So if the submarine conducts a surface torpedo attack, it would have a huge margin to stealth fire.  

 

The surface speed of a submarine is around 20 to 21 knots, then around 8 to 9 knots under water.  So even at the surface it can move around with impunity unless a cruisers use aircraft (1 to 2km on visibility however), hydro and radar, and destroyers are in a big disadvantage unless they have radar and acoustic.

 

The sub will simply go underwater if spotted by aircraft, hydro and acoustic, and will be rendered invulnerable from all attacks, unless ships have ASW mortars and depth charges.  But even if the destroyers have that, they would need hydro and radar to spot the submarines, and that also has grave consequences and disruptive unbalance when dealing with each other and against other ships.

 

And I mean **every** destroyer in the game would need either hydro and/or radar to counter the submarine class.

 

This will have consequences on ship balancing that in the end, require every cruiser and battleship to have hydro/radar in order to stay competitive.  

 

You simply cannot play destroyers against each other like the way they used to.

scenario one: 13 min into the battle, you are approaching A in your skunk class sub, equipped with a speed flag. your team is down 15 : 847. you come up to periscope depth, to have a look around, as your DDs were sunk long ago, no one is scouting, the CAs are too busy hiding behind their islands. you are immediately bombed, which destroys your aft torp tubes, your engine and steering incapped, and you are unable to dive. you hit repair, and heal, and dive just in time to receive 2 min, 14 seconds of depth charging from one or both of the enemy DDs that happened to be in range. this is over 15 minutes into the battle, it ends. 'you have yet to prove yourself in this battle.'

 


 

scenario two: you are spawned far to the rear and in a corner of the map. in your barnacle class submarine, equipped with the super fast speed flag, you stay on the surface, as there are, for a change, no CVs this battle. after a few minutes, you make it all the way up to 16.7 knots, and are able to speed past two of your BBS, which are reversing off the map. you get TK warning for nearly swamping them with your huge wake. a bit after 4 min, 20 sec into the battle, you reach C, which has already been capped. 'push B'... you elect to head north of the islands, to see if you can launch at one of the BBs lumbering around up there. they are 17 km away, heading for A. they are faster than you, even though you are on the surface, and don't have boost. as you chase, a DD and CA pop out from behind the closest island. as you are diving (45 second process) you take 2 hits from the CA secondaries (13mm, HE). one incapacitates your electric engine, the other penetrates your ballast. as you are sinking toward the bottom, you hit repair and heal, and survive the depth charging with 388 HP. 3 min later, at 6 kts, you raise your periscope. you are right next to, and parallel, to the enemy DD (still hiding behind the island, it's what they do anymore). it takes 1 min 14 seconds to turn the sub 90 degrees to get a firing solution, you manage to fire a salvo, and dive, before the DD can get moving and ram you. your torps fail to arm, but one of them hits the CA that was hiding right behind the DD !! the CA repairs immediately, so only takes 6200 damage. you are sunk in the depth charge barrage that follows. your team loses on points, 88 : 1000 at 12 min into the battle.


 

in other battles, skunk and barnacle class submarines have, of course, been played far better than you are. in fact, they are considered to be radically OPed. BBs have been sunk !! there will be mass complaints, and WG will ..... wait for it ..... wait for it ..... nerf the subs (ed. note: you didn't see that coming?). now, it takes 48% longer to dive, turn, load, your detection range is longer by 48%, and, of course, the torps are slower with 48% shorter detection range, with shorter range (3.6km), and do 48% less damage. and you can't see anything out of your periscope. then they will split the sub line (with such classes as: rock, roach and oops, into three branches, so as to allow you the chance to suck in 3 of them simultaneously.


 

more exciting news!! after they introduce the sub line, next up will be PT boats.
