If you own the Kiev now, you will keep the Kiev when it moves to tier 8 and you will also receive the new tier 7 replacing the Kiev.

 

If you buy a Gnevny, you will keep it when it moves to tier 6 and you will also receive the new tier 5 replacing the Gnevny.

If you like your Russian DD, you can keep your Russian DD. 

 

OTOH if you want your Kiev captain to stay with the Kiev as it moves from Tier 7 to 8, tough luck.

So, as mentioned by Teruzuki, you will have a shiny new T8 Kiev when patch comes, with a new T7 ship (So, 1 ship becomes 2) 

 

And it seem to me that the new Kiev is pretty strong, with long range 2x5 torp, more HP, and better guns I believe, but a tier higher.

 

If you want to keep captain on Kiev, you will need to grind out Tashkent before patch, put Kiev commander in Tashkent, and start retrain (I don't think you need to finish that retrain, IDK)

 

Then the new T8 Kiev will have its commander back after patch.

You will not loose anything. You will get 2 ships for each of the ships you own that going to be changed.

Yeah, this is all gain, no pain. You're gonna get new ships, port slots, new captains with skill points, reserve slots, so much hotness. If you already have much hotness, you get even more hotness AND WG will shower you in silver.
