Can't get it out of my head.  Heroically sung by musical actor Mario Tashiro in both Japanese and English versions.  The awkward English pronounciations of the English version doesn't distract from the theme but even enhances it.  Such masterful singing.

The original Japanese version.

I miss the days where Fire Emblem was not a waifu simulator....

At the very least it's possible to skip the waifu simulator aspect of Fates without much effect on gameplay.  Now the shipping simulator aspect on the other hand...if you weren't pairing up and/or using non-mandatory child characters in Awakening, say goodbye to your chances of completing the game on any difficulty above normal on Classic mode without serious grinding and/or stupidly frustrating moments with the RNG (unless you're using Anna the RNG Goddess).  Fortunately the cast was engaging enough to make it entertaining in its own right and not just a chore.  Fates is pretty much the same thing to me - without the character engagement.  Conquest makes it even more tiring because you don't have anything but DLC to level your units up with.  Of course the community doesn't exactly help those of us who play for strategy first, story second, and shipping third/fourth/never...

On another note, does anyone who has actually played Fire Emblem: Heroes here care to compare it to other games in the franchise?  I've been considering whether to pick it up, but the RNG, especially with summons, looks maddening even by FE standards (I'm aware of Lunatic+, and beat Awakening - eventually - on that difficulty).  Since I have a 3DS emulator to replace my actual (trashed) machine, the whole "Fire Emblem but it's portable/F2P" thing doesn't really appeal.

I've pretty much accepted the gacha aspect of it to summon your characters is what's expected of a p2w 'social game'.  It's easily playable without paying a single dime though if you're willing to put the time into it to earn the items that you need to upgrade your characters' rarity, although not reliably being able to earn doubles makes you miss out on increasing beyond max level be 'feeding' a double of the same rarity to your leveled character.

Was able to make a pull like this with just the orbs I've earned for free by playing the game, so the chances to pull rares aren't reduced.. just the number of times if you don't pay for them.

The gameplay itself is more of a game of chess as there's no RNG involved in the actual combat.  eg: no hit rate, so 99% doesn't miss and 1% doesn't hit and critical.  All attacks hit, and the game comes down to assist abilities, movement and placement (even this is simplified.. most units move 2 spaces, 1 space through a forest hex, armor knights move 1, mounted move 3 and flying ignore terrain) and the weapon triangle which increases/decreases attack power on a RSP principle (red < blue < green) like the later FE games (magic is also included, eg: wind magic which is a green attack does more damage against spearmen which are blue).

It's sad, back when "Fire Emblem" (the 7th in the series, for those uninformed) was the new one (and only one) here in the US, the forums for the game were all about helping eachother get through Hector Hard Mode *shiver*, and how to unlock 32x, the Value of Life.

Now it's "How do I get Rhajat with pink hair?"

Why do you need a 3DS emulator?  This is F2P, you download it to your iPhone, iPad, Android phone or tablet via Apple App Store or Google Play.  Where you pay money is buying the orbs so you can spin those Gachas to get random heroes which is only optional.  You can try it out yourself and quit anytime.

Compared to 3DS games, Fire Emblem Heroes is a work in progress.  There are continually new heroes, new missions, new events.

I even got this running on my Chromebook that has Android compatibility mode and the Google Play Store.

The theme for Heroes is not bad, but I enjoyed the Brawl version much more.

On the other hand, Heroes' rendition of

is intense.

I'm also cringing about the turn to waifu simulator in the latest titles, but it's hard to complain too much about it when Fire Emblem as a franchise was in dire financial straits before the first time they turned to waifu supports and moe-blobbing characters in Awakening. Sadly, it's unlikely that we'll see a return to the old ways outside of more remakes like Echoes (fingers crossed for Genealogy of the Holy War especially).

What I miss the most out of the old titles is not so much the characters, but the art style and animations of the GBA era. They really stood out compared to other titles of the time and the animations were totally badass. If there is a Fire Emblem game that brings back that 2D look in an updated form, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I'm not using the emulator for Heroes, I'm using it so I don't have to buy a new 3DS to play my copies of Awakening and Fates.  It pretty much means the mobile/accessibility aspect of the game is moot, which is why I asked if its worth playing beyond that.  I was just looking for opinions before getting Heroes because I have a very unfortunate tendency to never drop a game entirely unless I reach extreme levels of hatred for it.  Same mentality that drives me here tends to lead to that: if it sucks, figure out how you can change it first, what's wrong with the game second.

Then again summon RNG can't possibly be as bad as Lunatic+ RNG...

I wasn't much of a fan of the franchise until I had a chance to play through Awakening. I was mildly familiar with it as I did play Super Smash Bros. Melee, so I was exposed to some of the main characters at least. I had heard that Intelligent Systems made Awakening as a sort of 'send off' to the series, and instead it became highly popular here in the west and revitalized the series. I love the soundtracks from the series, I think they're very well done, and enjoyable to listen to.

I agree with you and Tengu about the community you see around for the franchise though. I like the turn based strategy aspect of the games(even though I'm a filthy casual that plays on, well, casual), and the stories I find to be engaging and interesting. Not really a fan of all the 'shipping' and 'waifu simulator' stuff. I mean, some of the meta jokes are funny, but that's about it. Although, I feel the way the children in Awakening were implemented went really well with the story and made sense. Fates however, it just wasn't really needed, imo. I am really looking forward Echoes though. And I do hope that Intelligent systems does more remakes for the games that were Japan only titles.

That said, I did run across an interesting version of

. Note, it's not for everyone, some of my friends didn't like it, a few thought it was hilarious, as I did. You'll probably think it's stupid, but I just wanted to share as I think it's hilarious how well "Together We Ride" syncs up with the other song. (There's also a FE:Fates version :P)

Also, seems like a good time to make the inquiry, but Wahoo, does your Avatar(and the previous one you had) and Sig have anything to do with Fire Emblem? I feel like the character looks familiar, but I couldn't find anything when skimming through the FE wiki pages of characters across the games.

It is, in fact, Eirika from Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. The previous one was Lyn from Fire Emblem (FE7: Blazing Sword). I'm shocked you missed Lyn while skimming through pages, considering Lyn's massive popularity; Lyn sat at #1 for female characters in the latest character poll, which was conducted globally. The title is the first Fire Emblem game I played, so it holds a special place in my heart, even if it's flawed in terms of low difficulty (lol Seth).

No, the previous one I had recognized as Lyn. Took me some time to finally put my finger on the fact it had to be her, but I did. I just wanted to make sure I was right, basically. :P

Erika however, I guess your previous version of her and this one, plus the sig, just didn't look a lot like the artwork from the game she was in, that or I just happened to miss it.

I thought I was on the right track, because the clothing and armor looked very similar to almost exactly like the style used in the FE franchise. It's just me having not played anything other than Awakening and Fates limited my ability to recognize them right away.

Eirika's costume changed slightly for her depiction in Fire Emblem: Heroes. The armor is quite tasteful though (and she's still wearing a skirt like her original depiction). What's really weird is that she wears her classic costume in the Fire Emblem: Heroes' cover splash.

Wondering how much orbs and gachas I got to do and pay to get them all.  The monetization strategy feels more aggressive than Pokemon Go.

Apparently $1000 worth of orbs isn't enough.
