Hey guys looking for a little advice here. Been grinding through ranks. I main a Nagato and seem to do pretty well. Earlier this week I was doing really good in ranked, probably around 70% WR in a handful of games. I hit R5 recently and it seems tougher and you see a lot of the same people over and over again. What I am struggling with is do I need to switch my ship of choice? The reason I am considering this is I am constantly in games where DD's will not smoke, or will get nuked in < 3 mins, or yolo, so can I improve my teams chances by pulling my shira? Also I have noticed issues with CL's, camping in smoke and doing nothing while my Nagato is getting wrecked. It also seems like CLs fail to shoot and kill enemy DD's that are flanking, so I could pull my Fiji or ARP Myoko.

I feel the most comfortable in my Nagato, but realize someone who is better could be playing it and I could focus on the team roles where players seem to be failing. I have played a lot with the TT myoko and mogami so I could pick that up pretty easy, I feel ok playing the shira, although I have more DD experience in RU DDs. Fiji I just got, it feels really good, but I am still learning her.  I guess the other option is just to stay with Nagato and try to get better. Thoughts?

Well I am a Belfast main in ranked, so I can't speak to playing a Nagato. The only BB I've taken out in ranked is the Scharn. DD's if played right can have the biggest impact, so if you are comfortable  and can keep them on their toes until the mid game when ships start to go down, that's when a dd starts to shine in ranked. Cruiser play in ranked is very cautious as a cruiser in the open and spotted gets focus fired. Always have to use smoke and islands. The Nagato seems to have one of the tougher roads in ranked especially if there are few bb's in the game. dd's and cruisers will smoke up and anything that gets spotted by planes or dd's gets burnt to death.

Play your best ship regardless. Look at the stats for your ships in this ranked season. Don't rely on other teammates, you will constantly be disappointed.

Case in point, I played Belfast a lot because it's clearly the best ship for this ranked season. But I wasn't winning enough to keep ranking up. Went back to my best ship (Sims), and started winning again. Play what you know.

Good advice guys. I will stick it out with the Nagato and see how it goes, maybe switch if I get stuck.

If you were bringing something like the Pensacola/Yorck/Maass (and had the option of bringing a stronger ship) then I would recommend you do that.  But if the Nagato is your best performing T7 ship, then that is what I would recommend you bring.

I remember last season catching crap for bringing my T8 Fubuki, so I switched and started playing the Benson and immediately lost 3 ranks because I just couldn't make the gunboat style in ranked work for me.

This weekend was rough for ranked, up and down. I would get a on good winning streak, only to be followed up by a losing streak. I tried some other ships, Fiji, Gnei. I did alright in the Gnei but 0 of 2 in Fiji. I'll have to stick w/ BBs I think, not used to the squishy CL's. The frustrating thing is overall my win% is going up but I played like 30 games and got maybe 2 or 3 stars out of it. There were a couple of close games, but it seems like a lot of games are just blow outs either way. I am really struggling to get top exp in the blowouts, even if I am the last one left, you just get focused down so much and Sims exp bias.

I move from my Sims, Sharnhorst, and Fiji. My general stats are better with Sharn or fiji but my win rate is much higher in my Sims. So I play my Sims cause ranked is about winning. As a Sims in ranked play I smoke for people, spot and watch the flanks. That is my job. When I do my job the other people on my team do better. It will only be a matter of time before I get rank one. Gotten as low as 5 before this weekend potatofest but now 8....life marches on.
