You head into battle with a group, next thing you know you're alone s your "team" scrurries off like frightened bunnies. They then hover around on the edges until most of the team is sunk and we end up losing. Next gripe is the freaking lemming train that leaves the cap undefended. One cursory glance at the map will tell you that this is a possibility but NOOOOO off they go, leaving you and maybe one other to vainly attempt to defend the cap against the coming onslaught. One last gripe..I really suck at torpedoes..can't seem to hit anything unless I'm right on top of them, yet I seem to be very good at being a victim of torps. Rant over..Kalishnicat out.

So often now tho'... you can almost justify tagging along at the rear of said formation so when they turn around you aren't left to fend alone. #2 Lemming train that leaves the station. It isn't worth the photons in chat, attempting to change minds when the train starts leaving the station. You can always be a slow caboose on that train... if/when you see things going south, you can lope back and defend, irritate the reds at a distance. #3. Torps - watch videos on youtube. IChaseGaming has a commander series that covers torps. You can also get into a training room, set up some targets and practice. Torps are like slow motion bullets which utilize the same principle of lead, but the lead is different. Watch the videos, try the training room and give it a shot in coop, with a cruiser maybe that has torps. DD in coop are hunted like rabid dogs.
943 [TOSEY] KalishniKat [TOSEY] Members 1,344 posts Report post #3 Posted March 3, 2017 Thanks! I've tried to hone my skills in co-op but I'm still pretty bad but I'll practice more I guess. Rant tonight was generated by a very frustrating lemming train. I mean if you've reached tier 7 ( I haven't yet) you would think you'd understand some of the strategy of the game. Game ended we had more ships afloat, most of which were green health but no one helped me and my poor Leander defend the cap. And yes...All my torpedoes missed

However if I'm detected and look at the map and should not be detected Then I actually start evasive movements while changing speeds as well. As far as hitting with torps. You have to plan on the target taking evasive maneuvers. Which is harder than it sounds but I normally fire a wide spread on the lead indicator and a narrow spread just a little closer to the ship than the lead indicator. If they turn into your first spread hopefully they eat the second.

Like the clown in a Omaha, 3 km behind me in my Nurnberg, who was spamming torps (range 5.5 km) at a ship that was out of range of MY torpedoes. (range 6.0 km) with me in between. All the knucklehead did for the whole battle was circle around and spam torps as fast as they reloaded. He may have even fired his guns every now and then. Just relax and adapt. And keep in mind that both teams have potatoes.
3,999 [V_KNG] Herr_Reitz Beta Testers 13,205 posts Report post #8 Posted March 4, 2017 It surprises me, at every tier, when cruisers take off at the start of the match and drag race destroyers to the cap. Why would you do this? I've seen it so often I just slow down and let them run to cap. Funny thing is, half the time the cruiser realizes my DD is slowing down so they slow down, apparently believing I want a cruiser next to me. If I'm in a cruiser following a dd, I stay back at least the difference in concealment ranges. Figure a destroyer has 7km concealment (most are better) and my cruiser has 12km concealment. I'll lay back about 5km from the DD. Face it - the first ships spotted by the red team will always be presumed to be following or escorting at least one DD. So if I'm in a cruiser I don't want to blow the DD's ability to sneak about. Sure, everyone knows DD will go for a cap but why pinpoint them for the reds? Maybe I'm one of the few DD players who does not want a cruiser "buddy" alongside? Maybe. More directly to the OP point... if you see things happening, as others suggest, you must accept it will likely go down like it does most times, unless you can put yourself somewhere on the map to slow or stop the reds. Sometimes you can reap buckets of xp if you do it right. The best players turn that sometimes into most often. I haven't reached that level yet.
52,202 [MAUS] LittleWhiteMouse Members 13,705 posts Report post #9 Posted March 4, 2017 I just tell myself that if I'm lucky, I'll have maybe one player that will back my play ... probably from several kilometers behind me ... in a destroyer ... firing fish that I'll have to dodge on top of all of the incoming fire from the enemy. When I division with others, I usually get a lot of raised eyebrows when I take just about any ship I'm in to the same claustrophobic destroyer-choked regions that I do. The reason is simple enough: they're often isolated areas where I can fight all by my onesies and decide the course of the engagement through my own grit and merit. This way, I do not have to worry about how my team mates ironically hit the "Battle" button to spend 20 minutes running as far away from a real fight as they possibly can.
