It's Mouse, that paid early rep is just a cheap investment that's guaranteed exceptional informational returns!

The biggest problem with the previous version was the inability to continue editing the first post.  The forums would bug and tell me that my post was too long, no matter what I did.  To this end, I knew I had to restart the whole thing from scratch.  So yeah, this whole thing will be a bit of a Work in Progress until I get everything put together.  I'm not anticipating there being too many premium carriers, so I can have them piggy back one of the other ship types.  I should be able to provide more information with 3-posts available to work with and this should be future proofed for the next year or two.  Keep an eye on this space.

As someone new to the forum, I would just like to say that I hope there will never come a time where you get tired of contributing, or have any doubt as to the importance of your continued work for the WoWs community.

It is very much appreciated; thank you. :honoring:

So I've hit the "post is too long" limit while playing with the Destroyer entries.  As they exist presently is about the maximum volume of information I can provide on a per entry basis and still include a few new ships over the coming year or two.  Here's what I have:

  • Ship Name + Link to Full Review.
  • Availability Status
  • A Short Description of the ship (C&Ped from my Full Reviews)
  • The Closest Comparable Ship + Explanation of similarities.
  • Release History

Now what I would have liked to also include was:

  • Skill Floor / Ceiling of each ship.
  • If I generally recommended the ship or not.

Example:

Lo Yang, Tier 8 Pan Asia

Availability on NA Server:  NOT AVAILABLE
Quick Summary:   A modified Benson-class Destroyer (the USS Benson, in fact) that can swap it's Engine Boost / Defensive Fire ability for a Hydroacoustic Search instead.  The Lo Yang has slightly less HP than the Benson while also having the option of two different torpedo armaments.

Closest in-Game Contemporary:  Benson, Tier 8 American Destroyer

Degree of Similarity:  Clone / *Sister-Ship* / Related Class/ Similar Role / Unique

At first glance, the Lo Yang appears to be identical to the USN Benson-class (C-Hull) Destroyer found at tier 8 in the American tech tree.  There's a reason for this.  She is the USS Benson, sold and renamed by Taiwan.  She is near identical to this researched vessel but with a few exceptions -- and not all of them for the better.

Release History:

  • First Sold February 22nd to March 7th 2016.
  • Sold July 29th to August 15th, 2016.
  • Sold in various Black Friday bundles 2016
  • Sold December 2nd to 9th, 2016.
  • Sold December 23rd to January 2nd, 2017

Is there any other information that you guys would have preferred to have seen on a short summary?  Should I remove some sections and replace them with something more pertinent?

Possibly worth seeing about getting your own sub-Wiki instead of trying to maintain it on the forums.

The only problem with that is that Wargaming would be hosting someone who may not say very flattering things about their projects on occasion.  I can't see the higher ups wanting to support that.

In other news:  Arpeggio and Dragon ships have been hosted.  I can stop fussing about this for a bit. :)

Mouse, this is a brilliant piece work, as usual!  In my opinion, I would rather see your recommendation than see the release history entries. If you are strapped for space, I would go with that.  I really value your evaluations, and always read the full reviews, but having a quick reference that points you in the right direction is really valuable.  Thank you so much for all that you do!:medal:

+1 for another great post by Little White Mouse.

I only have 5 of the listed ships (all rewards).

I do not buy any premiums and never will in WoWS.

(I learnt my lesson in WoT - WG does nothing but offer premium vehicles while doing nothing to repair the horrid map situation)

How about WoWS awards a reward ship (their choice) for all of LWMs incredible work to inform other WoWSers about WoWS?

I'm fairly certain there have been times that other accounts were run for limited availability ships.

This index is meant to serve as a quick summary of the Premium Warships, both currently and previously available.  This will be faster and easier for me to update when something new comes out than the time it takes to write a longer article.  This guide is not meant to be comprehensive, but to give players a glance over of what each ship entails while providing easy to navigate links to more thorough reviews.

Legend & Notes

Online Store - These are ships that you need to spend real-world money (or premium currency) to acquire.  In the case of limited release ships, players can only buy this ship directly through the online store. Some of the more common premium ships may also be available for purchase through the in game tech tree for doubloons, but only if specifically listed.

Reward Ship  - Players can currently acquire this ship as a reward -- no money is needed to acquire this vessel.  Details will always describe the source through which this ship may be obtained.  This can be from bonus codes, contests, achievements, events and (in at least one case), through spending free experience.  Ships from previous events that are no longer available will not have this designation.

Not available - Ships is temporarily unavailable.  It may become available again sometime in the future.

Rare Collector's Item - Wargaming has removed the ship from sale and has released information detailing that this ship is unlikely to ever be available again in the future.  Unless specifically stated otherwise otherwise, these ships are unavailable.
LIMITED TIME! - Attached to Online Store, Reward Ship or Rare Collector's Item ships that will only be accessible for a limited window of opportunity.  Where possible, the final day the ship will be available will be documented.  If you want this ship, do not wait until the last minute and then blame it on me if there's a misunderstanding on the specifics on when a promotion ends.

When the ship's name is a link, it will lead you to the full review of the given vessel.  Pay close attention to the date of the review.  Older reviews may contain information no longer relevant to the current meta.

Recent Changes  (Last Updated March 13th, 2017)

  • Added Quick Summary and Full Review Link for Alabama.
  • Okhotnik is now on sale.

Limited Release Warnings:

2zrfclu.jpg11ki5n6.jpg33pavs5.jpg2rhla86.jpg

  • With Season Six of Ranked Battles currently active, Cruiser Flint (Tier 7 United States) and Destroyer Black (Tier 9 United States) are "available" in so far that players can try and amass another requisite Rank One finish to grind towards acquiring these ships.  The season is set to end March 23rd.
  • Katori is available until April 1st through the Tides of March combat missions.
  • Okhotnik is on sale until March 27th.

Destroyers

The following is the complete list of destroyers in World of Warships.  There have been fifteen (15) Premium destroyers released so far, with five (5) Japanese, three (3) American, three (3) Soviet, two (2) Pan Asian, one (1) Polish and one (1) British.

Smith, Tier 2 United States

Availability on NA Server:  ONLINE STORE.  Also available for doubloons.
Quick Summary:  A tiny, slow and under-armed destroyer with 76mm main armament guns and with fast-reloading, single-tube launched torpedoes.

Closest in-Game Contemporary:  Tachibana, Tier 2 Japanese Destroyer

Degree of Similarity:  Clone / Sister-Ship / Related Class/ Similar Role / *Unique*

The Smith shares the Tachibana's frantic, close range play style.  She's tiny with few hit points.  In addition, like the IJN Destroyer, the Smith has anemic 76mm guns along with short ranged, fast-reloading torpedoes.  The Smith takes this style of play and cranks it up to eleven.

Release History:  First Sold August 5th to 8th, 2016 for Wargaming's Anniversary.  Has been on sale since September 6th, 2016.

Evaluation:  Fun but not competitive at all.

Tachibana, Tier 2 Japan

Availability on NA Server: ONLINE STORE.  Also available for doubloons.
Quick Summary:   A fiendishly cute but painfully short ranged destroyer.  She has some of the quickest reloading torpedo tubes of her tier.

Closest in-Game Contemporary:  Umikaze, Tier 2 Japanese Destroyer

Degree of Similarity:  Clone / Sister-Ship / *Related Class* / Similar Role / Unique

The Sakura-class (to which Tachibana belongs) was a development from the Umikaze-class destroyers.  Tachibana plays very much like a stock Umikaze-class destroyer but with even smaller guns.

Release History:   First awarded for the Kaiju Hunter Missions, February 1st to March 1st 2016.  She first went on sale on May 25th, 2016 and has been on sale since.

Evaluation:  Not very competitive -- too short ranged.

Campbeltown, Tier 3 United Kingdom

Availability on NA Server: ONLINE STORE.  Also available for doubloons.

Quick Summary:  A Town-class Destroyer with 7.5km range torpedoes and a broadside of only 2 guns.  Despite it's American appearance, she plays more like a mid-tier Japanese Destroyer.

Closest in-Game Contemporary:  Wickes, Tier 3 American Destroyer

Degree of Similarity:  Clone / *Sister-Ship* / Related Class/ Similar Role / Unique

HMS Cambeltown was a mothballed Wickes-class destroyer that the United States sold to the United Kingdom in exchange for leases on several ports.  The British then converted her to make her more stable for use in the North Atlantic, removing several of her armaments.  As such, she has less guns and less (but far more powerful) torpedoes.  So while she looks like an American ship and retains that heritage, she doesn't play anything like the Wickes.

Release History:  First sold on May 25th, 2016 and has been on sale continually since that time.

Evaluation:  Challenging to use and heavily specialized.  She's a very poor gunship and her torpedoes have a very long reload rate.  If you can land hits, she's devastating, but that's a big if.

Gremyashchy, Tier 5 Soviet Union

Availability on NA Server:  RARE COLLECTOR'S ITEM

Quick Summary:  A Soviet Gnevny-class destroyer with improved  agility, concealment , torpedoes and HE rounds.

Closest in-Game Contemporary:  Anshan, Tier 6 Pan Asian Destroyer

Degree of Similarity:  Clone / *Sister-Ship* / Related Class/ Similar Role / Unique

Release History: First sold on October 20th to November 1st, 2015.  Sold October 21st to November 4th, 2016.  Sold in various Black Friday bundles 2016.  Wargaming announced that after January 18th, 2017, the Kamikaze-class would no longer be available.

Evaluation:  Overpowered with excellent concealment and phenomenal torpedoes.

Kamikaze, Tier 5 Japan

Availability on NA Server:  RARE COLLECTOR'S ITEM

Quick Summary:  The third Kamikaze-class sister.  An old-school IJN Destroyer with fantastic torpedoes, good speed, excellent camouflage and slow firing, short-ranged guns.  Kamikaze has a typical green IJN camouflage scheme.

Closest in-Game Contemporary:  Kamikaze R & Fujin,Tier 5 Japanese Destroyers

Degree of Similarity:  *Clone* / Sister-Ship / Related Class/ Similar Role / Unique
All three Kamikaze-sisters are clones of one another.  They used to closely resemble the Minekaze-class destroyer until patch 0.5.15.

Release History:  Was first made available in personal offers through the summer of 2016.  Sold in various Black Friday bundles 2016.  First sold separately (and openly) from January 2nd to 16th, 2017.  Wargaming announced that after January 18th, 2017, the Kamikaze-class would no longer be available.

Evaluation:  Overpowered with excellent concealment and phenomenal torpedoes.

Kamikaze R, Tier 5 Japan

Availability on NA Server:  RARE COLLECTOR'S ITEM

Quick Summary:  The second of three Kamikaze-class sisters.  An old-school IJN Destroyer with fantastic torpedoes, good speed, excellent camouflage and slow firing, short-ranged guns.  Kamikaze R has a skin reminiscent of the famous painting, "Great Wave off Kanagawa".

Closest in-Game Contemporary:  Kamikaze & Fujin,Tier 5 Japanese Destroyers

Degree of Similarity:  *Clone* / Sister-Ship / Related Class/ Similar Role / Unique
All three Kamikaze-sisters are clones of one another.  They used to closely resemble the Minekaze-class destroyer until patch 0.5.15.

Release History:  Kamikaze R became available through Project R Event from January 18th to Feb 11th, 2015. Kamikaze R was then sold February 12th to 26th.  Wargaming announced that after January 18th, 2017, the Kamikaze-class would no longer be available.

Evaluation:  Overpowered with excellent concealment and phenomenal torpedoes.

Anshan, Tier 6 Pan Asia

Availability on NA Server:  NOT AVAILABLE

Quick Summary:   Gnevny-class Soviet destroyer with an optional upgraded torpedo armament and modified AA suite.  Has a special form of premium camouflage which on top of the usual bonuses, increases free experience gains by 100%.

Closest in-Game Contemporary:  Gremyashchy, Tier 5 Soviet Destroyer

Degree of Similarity:  Clone / *Sister-Ship* / Related Class/ Similar Role / Unique

When Anshan was released, many reviewers were calling her a Tier 6 Gremyashchy.  This comparison is a bit misleading.  Anshan doesn't have all of the overpowered perks, such as agility, concealment and fire chance that Gremyashchy has.

Release History:  First Sold February 8th to 22nd 2016.  Sold in various Black Friday bundles 2016.  Sold from December 16th to January 2nd, 2017.

Evaluation:  A very strong destroyer with good guns and solid torpedoes.

Shinonome, Tier 6 Japan

Availability on NA Server:  REWARD SHIP  A reward ship earned for completing the "Honorable Service" Campaign.

Quick Summary:  An almost-stock Fubuki-class Destroyer but with three, slow firing turrets instead of two.  Her torpedo armament has an 8.0km range.

Closest in-Game Contemporary:  Fubuki,Tier 6 Japanese Destroyer

Degree of Similarity:  Clone / *Sister-Ship* / Related Class/ Similar Role / Unique

The Shinonome is the sixth ship of the Fubuki-class.  Veterans of the IJN line will recognize her three-turret layout as being that of the A & B Hull Variants when the ship was a tier 8 destroyer.  Her torpedoes are much more powerful due to their longer range over the stock Fubuki.  Otherwise, she's very similar to her tier 6 stock-counterpart with only small differences here and there.

Release History:  Awarded to players that complete the Honorable Service Campaign which became available on November 29th, 2016.

Evaluation:  A balanced, if unremarkable IJN Destroyer.

Blyskawica, Tier 7 Poland

Availability on NA Server:  NOT AVAILABLE
Quick Summary:  A well balanced destroyer armed with seven 120mm guns that can fire from stealth even before researching extended range with her Captain.

Closest in-Game Contemporary:  Leningrad, Tier 7 Soviet Destroyer

Degree of Similarity:  Clone / Sister-Ship / Related Class/ *Similar Role* / Unique

Blyskawica is rather an odd duck currently.  Designed by the United Kingdom, she's unlikely to have any close contemporaries until their destroyer line gets released.  She most closely resembles the game play style of the Leningrad, and there's some overlap in behaviours between the two.

Release History:  First Sold December 25th 2015 to January 5th, 2016.  Sold April 8th to 11th, 2016.  On Sale from May 25th to September 6th, 2016.  Sold in various Black Friday bundles 2016.  Sold from December 16th to January 2nd, 2017.

Evaluation:  A challenging destroyer to use properly but very effective in the right hands.

Leningrad, Tier 7 Soviet Union

Availability on the NA Server:  NOT AVAILABLE
Quick Summary:  The Leningrad is one of the fastest destroyers in the game; she's even faster than the Kiev.  Her gun DPM is on the low side with slow turning turrets and bad fire angles but she makes up for this with a good, medium range torpedo armament.  Finally, she has good stealth ratings -- a rarity for late-tier Soviet destroyers.

Closest in-Game Contemporary:  Minsk, tier 7 Soviet Destroyer
Degree of Similarity:  Clone / *Sister-Ship* / Related Class/ Similar Role / Unique

This is one of the rare cases where the lead ship of a given class is a premium, making the tech tree ships take the name of the second ship in the series.  Leningrad is hands down better with better torpedoes.

Release History:  First Sold October 11th to 21st, 2016.  Sold in various Black Friday bundles 2016.  Sold from December 9th to 16th, 2016.  Sold from December 23d to January 2nd, 2017.

Evaluation:  A very powerful destroyer with a good mix of decent guns and good torpedoes combined with ridiculously high speed to control any engagement.

Sims, Tier 7 United States

Availability on NA Server:  ONLINE STORE.  Also available for doubloons.
Quick Summary: The fastest and most agile USN Destroyer currently in the game, with four, quick-reloading 127mm guns, the Defensive Fire consumable and the choice of two terrible torpedo armaments.

Closest in-Game Contemporary: Farragut-class, Benson-class
Degree of Similarity: Clone / Sister-Ship / *Related Class* / Similar Role / Unique

Historically, the Sims-class was the predecessor to the Benson-class. However, she shares a lot of World of Warships game play styles to the Farragut. I would normally just compare it to the Benson, but it's a big step down. She'll play a lot more like a tier 6 USN Destroyer in most respects, particularly with one of her two torpedo options, but with a dash of Benson-greatness tossed in to make her feel (almost) enjoyable.

Release History:  First Sold in Pre-Order Bundles from April 8th to June 25th, 2015.  Sold on June 26th to July 10th, 2016. On sale since September 6th, 2016.

Evaluation:  A specialized brawler, Sims is a challenging ship to use properly but she's the best knife fighter in the game.  Outside of competitive play, her damage totals really suffer.

Release History:   First Sold February 22nd to March 7th 2016.  Sold July 29th to August 15th, 2016.  Sold in various Black Friday bundles 2016.  Sold December 2nd to 9th, 2016.  Sold December 23rd to January 2nd, 2017.

Evaluation:  A competitive if unremarkable ship.

Black, Tier 9 United States

Availability on NA Server:  REWARD SHIP  LIMITED TIME!  Black can be earned through reaching Rank One through five seasons of Ranked Battles.  The current season is ongoing.

Quick Summary:  A reward-version of the Fletcher-class Destroyer with Radar.

Closest in-Game Contemporary:  Fletcher, Tier 9 American Destroyer
Degree of Similarity: Clone / *Sister Ship* / Related Class / Similar Role / Unique

USS Black is a Fletcher-class destroyer but, like most premium ships, she has a few changes to make her stand apart from her sisters.

Release History:  First became available during Season Six of Ranked Battles ran from February 10th to March 23rd, 2017.

Evaluation:  Overpowered. She's the best destroyer for controlling vision in a match.

Will you do one for BBs? I've been thinking of getting Texas.
