70 [RESIN] ACEpickles Beta Testers 321 posts 23,200 battles Report post #1 Posted March 2, 2017 When WG decided to use T7 for ranked battles, was it there intent for the smoke and camp play-style? Just in a match with 1 BB/1 DD and rest cruisers(mostly Belfasts). All DD could do was hide and BB was vaporized. Very frustrating to say the least. Was this the intent? Especially since DDs have been getting a lot more team oriented and deploying smoke for teammates. What really ruins T7 ranked is the Belfasts. They don't have a trade off. Unlike Indianapolis and Atlanta who have radar and hydro but no smoke.

And where are these ranked battles full of cruisers you speak of? At Ranks 10-6, I mostly see 1 BB, 1 CA, and 5 DD matches at the times I usually play, Or 2/2/3. 696 Judge_Doom Members 1,716 posts 8,224 battles Report post #6 Posted March 2, 2017 The intent of making Ranked tier 7 was to be able to introduce the Belfast and thereby WG would capitalize on a well planned money grab scheme, did not matter how disruptive it was to the player base that would not buy the ship, all that mattered was that WG lined their own pockets once again.

How it got through testing and onto the market in its current state still baffles me.
125 DeathLord1969 Members 1,002 posts 4,096 battles Report post #9 Posted March 2, 2017 I've had a few ranked matches with 0 dds before. Have had some with 1 BB per-side as well. Ranked matches in the very early AM can be strange.
17,545 [WOLF5] HazeGrayUnderway Members 38,567 posts 31,222 battles Report post #10 Posted March 2, 2017 (edited) People are so full of s--t that facts have to be tossed out to help keep the dams from overflowing from it. Here are 2 weeks worth of ships that have been played the most in Ranked. Belfast is 4th. The 6 most played ships in Ranked are all Battleships. Except for Belfast and Poi. But what if we go by Win Rate? Belfast is indeed competitive as a winner but there are others close to her performance as well. If Belfast wasn't in this Ranked Season, you'd be complaining about Saipan, Hiryu, Poi, Blyskwawica. 2 of those are Premiums. 2 of those are Tech Tree Ships. If Belfast wasn't in this Ranked Season, you'd complain about Fiji. If Belfast was not in this Ranked Season, you'd still complain about something else that magically prevents you from being Ranked 1. People need to accept the fact that their defeat, loss can actually be attributed to being outplayed, making a blunder. It's always got to be something else that lead to your lack of performance, right? Edited March 2, 2017 by HazeGrayUnderway

S--t And I'm not sure in which order of quantity. Actually, the poster nailed it dead on. Ive been with WOT since 8.2 ish and WOWS since beta. The SOLE reason WG chose to put ranked at 7 this go around was to capitalize on the excessive amount of premie ships available to line WG's pockets; and let's be real, they did a hella good job doing that. Unfortunately, WG cannot quite seem to figure out how to go from 'make money regardless of the fan base that built them' to 'make money by bringing in new players AND retaining long term players'. This is why WOT in particular is starting to stagnate hard; and we can all see that by the immense amount of advertising pushing WG has done for WOT; far more so than WOWS. Its not a Russian thing or American thing; its a straight up Capitalist thing.

25 [KMS] Lone_Starr [KMS] Beta Testers 118 posts 21,733 battles Report post #14 Posted March 3, 2017 From the stats posted by Haze, it seems to me that maybe the only reason Belfast doesn't have the most games played is because not as many people have the Belfast as have the other 3 ships above her. I know I'd play the Belfast if I had one instead of the top 3 listed ships. That's the problem with those statistics...they can be misleading if you dont adjust to take into account who has a Belfast and who doesn't.

Alright then, I agree with Haze. And, I don't think WG was sitting around trying to influence a particular playstyle, as others have said, their decision was based on two things... one, there are a lot of Tier 7 ships available if you include premiums, and two, people complained last time when it was split between two tiers, 6 and 8. So, just choosing 7 alone seems pretty obvious.
38 hlh3rd Members 92 posts 12,780 battles Report post #16 Posted March 3, 2017 (edited) Belfast needs to be given the Kitakami treatment. No it doesn't. I love my Belfast, and am having so much fun with it. Anyone who suggests it's broken, too OP, or needs nerfing, is a cry baby, who needs to stop playing this game, and go play Pretty Princess on their little sister's WII. Sure some ships are better than others, and it may seem unfair, but life is unfair. The way you overcome difficulties and obstacles is find out the weaknesses of your opponent. While the Belfast has cool consumables like smoke, radar, and acoustic search, it still has some glaring weaknesses. Sure you can camp in smoke, and spam HE, but your smoke is only two puffs, and is only large enough to cover the ship. To cover the ship effectively, you almost have to come to a dead stop, before you activate smoke. If you don't know this, you'll press the smoke key, find out your smoke cloud is way behind you, and are now stopped and exposed to any enemy, who has you in their sights. Do it the right way, and slow to a crawl before you pop smoke, you're still dangerously exposed to enemy fire before the smoke kicks in, and with the Belfast having what seams like aluminum foil for armor, it doesn't take abuse too well. That smoke can lure a noob into a false sense of security, and can cause his demise quickly, if he depends on it too much. Hiding behind islands, and minimizing your exposure to the enemy, like other cruisers, is a better defense. Since ranked has the best of the best players, the Belfast's success is mostly due to the high skill of their players more than the ship. The Belfast in the hands of noobs and wallet warriors in random games, is not nearly as scary and OP as some make it to be. I have a nice size collection of cruisers in my fleet, and even though I love my Belfast, I love my Zao the most. It doesn't have radar, smoke, or acoustic search, but it has awesome guns, which when firing HE, burns battleships to the waterline, and thanks to it's incredibly small concealment footprint for a cruiser, I can HE spam BBs all day without them spotting me, as long as they or I don't get too close to each other. I didn't even mention the Zao's nice set of torps, which can come in handy now and then. Edited March 3, 2017 by champflyer
95 [W_H_S] SurpriseMotherTrucker Members 692 posts 21,508 battles Report post #17 Posted March 7, 2017 I don't know if I find Belfast or Smoke Meta that game breaking. There are ways to counter anything and you are correct, most of the time I feel that smoke makes people over confident. I had a game the other day that a Belfast, Sims and Colorado were grouped by an island. Sims and Belfast smoked up and covered all 3. I was in Akatsuki and just turned into them to get a better angle around the island. popped 6 torpedo's at Belfast and 3 and Colorado (both where I suspected they would be). Belfast pops Radar, that didn't last long, dead Belfast and Flooding Colorado. Mahan and I went from a 2 versus 6 to a 2 versus 2 very quick (I had just took out the Fiji just before Belfast and Mahan got a DD and a BB). We ended up losing but it wasn't due to enemy smoke or radar just a bad played team. Mahan and I both got High Caliber and suffered a frustrating game but had the solace that we played our best. If I had to pick one ship that I could do without in Ranked it would actually be Atlanta / Flint. They can shotgun fire so quickly it's hard to counter but hey if there wasn't a ship that could kill me it wouldn't be fun.

I love to gun them down with Akatsuki. Just messing around. Even though I don't have too much issue gunning down a Sims it is a good ship, fun little torpedo beating Corvette, I do better in Akatsuki overall. Sims is not a DPM ship but neither is Akatsuki BUT I can control areas and deny better in Akatsuki, Sims feels like a push ship Akat is cap and defend.
