At the very heart and core of the game, it's all about which team blunders the least, or makes the least critical blunders.

Friendly BB lemming train into the corner of the map? No problem, all Red DDs will YOLO into a Belfast and relinquish map control anyways

Friendly strike Ranger vs. Red team AS Saipan? No problem, Saipan will sail his ship into plain sight of your friendly BBs and cruisers.

All friendly DDs YOLO into cap and die within the first 5mins? No problem, red team will decide to sail broadside to all your BBs and their DDs will try to YOLO torp Belfasts.

Bad day at the helm?

nah, it's just a observation I had.

Your team can do everything they can to throw the match, but the red team can still throw it harder.

So it's a competition of who out-Falcons the other team? :)

Indeed.

All the red team has to do is not screw up to win.

What do they do? screw up

This is the possibility out of

  • ace it, just steamroll
  • not screw up
  • make a decent play
  • slightly screw up, but not enough to lose
  • royally screw up and snatch defeat from jaws of victory

Well if you think about it, that's how battles are in general. He who screws up the least is going to win if all things are equal.

Your theory extends far beyond the realm of video games - sports, business, politics, relationships, etc, etc...

Mmm, potato-filled chocolates...

With bacon sprinkles.

Sad how much this happens.

And then all the potatos that were on that team will lemming to the corner every game thereafter.  When told not to do this they will claim, "Every time I do this we steamroll teh reds, dood, why u suk so bad, lrn 2 WoWs!"

nah, it's just a observation I had.

Your team can do everything they can to throw the match, but the red team can still throw it harder.

Case in point: Yesterday, in my Akizuki, on Hotspot. We had four Missouris on our team and three of them were potatoes (shoutout to K_Dutch for being better than the other three combined...he gave a clinic on "How to Missouri" in that game).

9 ships spent the first 80% of the game camped behind A. The whole east spawn crossed map to camp behind A. Three of our Missouris died in first five minutes to torps or broadside mass citadel hits. I was literally the only ship trying to cap. B and C are red, I finally cap A and kill three ships trying to take it from me. I died trying to take B fighting a pair of Sims.

So at this point, enemy takes A and keeps B. All three caps are red. The one good Missouri died right before me, after three kills of his own. We're down to 4 ships, they have 5 and all caps, plus are up to 800 points. It's a loss.

Then our terribad Mogami driver YOLOs, torps a smoke cloud and gets BOTH Sims in a double strike, then dies but kills their Izumo with more torps that hit after he died. (37% win rate player, his best game ever, sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.) Two more of ours die for one of theirs, leaving our full-health Friedrich that had been crusing around in back sniping all game to fight their sole remaining ship, a half-health Friedrich. So our Friedrich finally grows a pair and closes in, doesn't angle at all, broadside on to their Friedrich that's staying bow on, and kills their Friedrich to win the game after almost dying due to multiple citadels.

No way they should have lost. We did everything we could do to throw that game, with the exception of me and the one good Missouri. The bad part is all those potatoes that ignored the caps will use that game as justification for playing the same stupid way in the future.
