Premium Ships you rarely see in Games

There is a bit of a myth that premium ships are OP ,pay to win but I have noticed there are some Premiums that I rarely  see in games anymore like the Molotov, Texas or Krasny crym.

Is it because these ships are a bit rubbish or are the newer premiums like the Belfast more fun and rewarding?.

I sure there are a few more premiums that get very little game time.

Bad MM and sometimes bad ship characteristics mean that lower tier premiums don't get played as often

I see Molotov fairly often and it's the strongest tier 6 cruiser in the game, and has been since it was added to the game.

 

Krasny Krym is a Russian premium released underpowered by design so WG and WG-supporters can point at it and say "See, not EVERY Russian premium is overpowered". It sucks because it was made to suck, and players realize this. Some still play it, but the ship is rare because it's intentionally weak in its tier.

 

Texas is a New York class. She has powerful AA but I imagine only players who enjoyed New York will play Texas regularly. I for instance absolutely hated New York and refuse to touch the Texas I got from the Lets Battle Tour as a result.

All of them are in a slaughterhouse that wg created with the tier breakup where 5-6 is basically just fodder for tier 7 matches all the time.  [edited]them and their [edited]ideas. Comparatively few people play them anymore since premiums high tier well but seldom low tier well.

A lot has to do with changes to the matchmaker. Ever since tier 4 became "protected" (unable to see higher than tier 5) that change really screwed tiers 5&6. They're much more likely to end up bottom tier than top.

 

Kearny Krym isn't a horrible tier 5 premium (it also isn't a great one) but it absolutely suffers when bottom tier (though if you do get a 5/4 match it's kinda powerful with its excellent range).

 

Texas and Molotov suffer less, but being consistently bottom tier tends to suck the fun out of things and is likely why they've become more scarce (this is also true of warspite).

Texas is fairly common. Krasny Krym is terrible and therefore rare, they need to give it preferred MM so it doesn't see T7s. Molotov used to be thought to be OP because of it's amazing guns, but was quickly found to be a fun but mediocre ship. You still see it, but it's not super common. The rarest premiums are the Flint (which is hard to get but so much fun), the Iwaki Alpha which is borderline OP but incredibly rare. Katori has almost never been sold or given away on NA, but is about to become common. Oleg was not super popular when it was on sale from what I understand. A second premium T3 russian cruiser was unnecessary. Diana as a T2 Aurora has a similar problem. Those ships might be cheap but not particularly popular. Albany was free but was so bad initially that a lot of players (myself included) sold it 475k credits and the port slot.

 

Every T7 or T8 premium seems fairly common, except for the aforementioned Flint and the Indianapolis, the third T7 American cruiser, which is uncommon but not super rare.

TBH that's not a case of bias IMO as much as it is a consequence of the current meta, my average in the Budyonny is downright disgustingly good. But that has little to do with the ship itself so much as the current meta favouring cruisers with 152mm high velocity guns.

 

It's a similar story for the DD's, and i predicted the current fate of torpedo ships way back in beta. In WoT Arty are incredibly hard to get hits with, but when they do hit they deal massive damage. Sound familiar? Yeah, WG'ing ultimately badly nerfed the hell out of arty ability to get hits in WoT because of the latter point making the difficulty of getting hits downright diabolical, think BB accuracy levels at BB RoF with one shot per salvo against an evading DD and your getting the idea.

 

At the end of the day if torpedoes DD's are to be both balanced and not frustrating to deal with or play yourself they need to be able to get reliable hits at a steady rate. Getting reliable hits at a steady rate without being both frustrating to deal with and downright Op however require that the damage per hit be dropped somewhat and flooding completely eliminated, otherwise they're going to be frustrating and frankly downright overpowered.

All tier 6 premiums ( Arizona/WarSpite/Dunkerque ) : Bad MM

All tier 5 premiums ( Including Texas ) : Bad MM

Lo Yang / Błyskawica / other orphan ship : No line to warrant spending the time to XP.  And those that did are now finished.

Low-tier Ship :  Absolutely all of the events in the last 4-6 months have been tier 6+ with the very occasional 4+.  So any ships tier4- are just out of the picture, even to ppl that like playing them.

 

Also, lots of ppl aren't strapped for cash anymore, so might as well play whatever line you're grinding.

There's a lot of researched ships that are plain out better than any premiums at their tier for the most part (Bismarck, Kongo, New Mexico, almost all the UK cruiser from T7+)

 

When I get a newer premium, I usually play about 50 games in it, sometimes a bit more, then relax on that and play something else for a while.

Probably the rarest premium ships are the Marblehead Lima, Diana Lima, Krispy Kreme, Tachibana Lima, and Iwaki Alpha.

 

Ships such as the Arkansas Beta, Flint, Gremy, and Nikolai are also uncommon, and the USS Black will also be fairly rare once this current season ends and they are handed out.

I play my Texas almost religiously. I win over 60% of the time in it...so why wouldn't I?

 

The Molotov I rarely take out. It's just too much of a glass cannon to deal with right now.

I dont see the Indianapolis very often (despite being tier 7).  Otherwise agree with the others above.

you need to div with a dd to spot for you. At t6, dd ayers think theyre a minotaur and fire from their own smoke or camp behind an island to freeze a cap. So you cant see anything in yours.

Hmm... well of the premiums I have, my Kami R gets the most play. I recently got the Belfast and play her a great deal. Congrats if you play the Texas well - I despise mine. 

 

Murmansk is good ship and player her a couple times a month. Ark B I've started playing a bit more. But more to the OP thread.

Answer from my POV: 

Texas in my book is trashcan material. But of course it is likely due to my inability to adjust to her turtle-like performance.  The Belfast has been around a good while. She is definitely more fun but I would often prefer torpedoes from the Fiji than the radar she has.

 

But the answer for me at least is "there are so many missions, challenges and such wherein I won't be playing those tiers. If I am playing the tiers, there are better ships." But this is from Mr. Joe Average.

I really, really wanted to love that ship. I've had a few really, really good games in it. My problem is that I was never consistent with it. That's the only reason I very rarely ever take it out.

I see lots of premiums playing Coop (across all tiers) including all the ones mentioned so far in this thread. The one exception to this is the Prinz Eugene. The only time I see this in game is when I bring it. Everyone else have seen with fair regularity.

I think the rarest of them all is the Alabama!

 

As for ships I rarely see...? Diana, Mikasa, Oleg, Kamikaze "R" (the reward ship), Nikoli (only because you had to be on for 1 day to buy it), Albany.
