Ever had those games where it was YOU who lost a match for your team?

And if so, how did you recover from such losses?

I just had this match where I was in my Gnesineau. It was the final ~2 minutes of the game. We were slightly ahead by points but the enemy had one zone capped and was capping the other two. I saw a Yorck in one of the caps and rushed him. I got him down to a few hundred HP, but he torped me to death with less than a minute left on the clock. Battle time expired and the enemy won.

A friendly Lenningrad was pretty pissed since he got a Kraken that game. He raged at me at post-game chat, and I just let him do his thing. I felt like absolute crap.

This hurt more than any massacre loss where my team was full of potatoes.

Have you ever lost a match for your team? And how did you manage to get over it?

Its just a freakin' game.  Find something to feel really sad about like losing a big sales contract because its your fault.

Absolutely, everyone has been there before. This is probably what it feels like then a unicum does it:

^^^ can confirm.

Usually, when I mess up really, really badly and cost my team the win, I drop down to T4 and club seals. Then, I slowly work my way up from there, going to T5, then 6, etc, etc. Usually, when I get back to the ship I has been playing when I made the mistake, I feel much better, and more in control.

No, I have not.

True form!

Repeatedly, to often in fact. Though I would rather feel as though I lost the match than feel as though I had no effect on one. If you are in the position to lose a match there is a reason for that, you are making an impact on the game.

Hey, hey...  sometimes we wanna complain about pointless things because it takes our mind off losing the sales contract :(

As for myself I had a great game in my Yamato, one of few Tier Xs, and was sitting at 3/4hp when I got pincer'd by three damaged ships.  Since one way was an Yamato and a NC, and the other way was a 1/4 HP Bismarck I naturally cut throttle, and prepared to smash through him while the other could only chip away at me. After two savloes,  all I had to do was hit him bow on for 5k from 3km out, swing about, lock their Yammy into a bow fight and let my team clean up.  To make a long story miss, I miss, he rams, and their Yammy cleans house.

It was a 200k damage loss, and it was all my fault.  I deserved all the salt that game.

That's quite sad.

I have a niece that, when she doesn't get her own way or is told off, you need to watch because she tends to wander off in search of her little sister to hit.

Way back when, when I was fairly new I was in my Mutsuki, 1 v 1 against a BB, I think it was a Nagato. I caught him by complete surprise and set up a perfect torp spread to drop all 6 fish and kill him. I whiffed. 0/6. BB sank me before I could get away. Team lost. One of my teammates messaged me after the game to let me know that we all screw up from time to time, and I should just learn from my mistake. Honestly one of the nicest moments I've had in this game. That being said, be prepared to feel bad and be yelled at for screw ups. I may be the one berating you, but it's just because I want everyone to play well.

What do you mean it's sad? I go back to my Kuma, and climb from there. It reaffirms my play-style and tactics. I've done it twice, and both times I saw myself get better at the game. Doing it with a 0 skill captain forces you to get better.

Every day.  Every frikin day.  'Cause I play a good bit.  And if I'm top tier, and not in the top three, and lose, then...hey...it's on me.  And it usually happens at least one game a day.

How do I recover?  Learn from my mistakes.  Keep on playing man.  Keep on playing.  'Cause there is always the unicum game just around the corner...maybe...kinda...sorta.

Losing it for the team actually doesn't bother me as much as not winning when all I have to do is kill one more low health ship. I just hate that.

Sorry, not you being sad. The situation is common.

It's supposed to reflect not knowing where you sit in the order of things (human nature). You stated that you go down tiers to Seal Club (prey on less capable individuals); this is you reasserting your place in the order of things and then working your way up to a place where you are comfortable again.

My apologies if you thought I was indicating you were sad; I was not. :(

Well, I call it as it is. Even with a Kuma that's got no modules, and no commander skills, it's still seal clubbing. It's just less so than say, a Nikolai.

This is actually the reason I really want the Katori. It's such a hard ship to work with that you gain almost no advantages by playing it. It's a good training boat.

Yes, what you have stated is just something that naturally happens when something comes along and knocks us out of our comfort zone.

I think its always sad when we are happily going along and something knocks us sideways. As you say, it may cause us to need to reconfirm our place in the order of things, but it can also make us stronger.

Again, apologies if I made it seem I was singling you out as a person as oppose to the situation.

No, but I had two idiots proclaim we had lost when we were leading in ships killed, caps, points and thenm weren't uber enough to win with a lead....

And how do you recover?  Press the battle button.

In general, I don't believe any single player loses a match for their team. Like any team sport, there are mistakes made throughout a match that impact whether you win or lose. You're basically asking if I feel bad about missing a game winning shot. Naturally it's disappointing, but why would I blame myself? It's not like everyone else played perfectly either.

However, some contributions are significant enough to throw an entire match. AFK, kill chasing, shitter CVs who shouldn't be allowed to play at higher tiers, braindead top tiers, etc. Tons of players hurt themselves by making stupid decisions with regards to sailing and shooting, but their lack of contribution doesn't necessarily impede others from succeeding. Personally, I despise sub 300 WTR CV players at T10. Call me cruel and elitist, but being that bad in such an important ship should be a bannable offense.

Yup. Was last ship (Hipper) one shot away from being destroyed. We were up on points and I was running and fish tailing  almost out of their firing range with 3 seconds left when that last shot got me. That one still burns.

Blew a chance at my second solo warrior in my Fuso, was last alive and burned down a Colorado as I was running for the corner, unfortunately left too much broadside and ate a 25k Salvo from a bayern then got set on fire right as I rounded corner into safety. Burned down with like 5 seconds left.

I have.  And I've also done something stupid that SHOULD have cost my team the game and had a good teammate or two bail us out.  Feels exceptionally stupid in ranked to do something really dumb and still end up winning.  I just try to learn from it and do better.

This - this is very true.  I never feel like I've "lost the match" when I was one of the also-rans who got deleted in the first 5 minutes, but that's because I wasn't in position to affect much of anything.  And in truth I may have "lost the match" in this circumstance, along with a lot of my co-deletees, far more than the person alive at the end who misses a shot, makes a wrong turn, etc.  Although the latter feels much worse.

The times I am upset with myself is when I make a stupid strategic decision, rather than those times I simply miss or something.  I remember a game early in my time with the Kiev where it was late game, down to two ships or so per side.  I could simply have run out the clock (points advantage) and won, but my friendly was in a close duel and I decided to add my guns to the fight to help him out.  Predictable result.
