man, you'd think with the amount of times this comes up, we'd get a warship FAQ or something by now.

ahhh cool! but wouldn't the ship towing them be in danger of hitting a mine? or are they too deep for that?

They were used along with minesweepers.

I'm more concerned about the completely exposed AA guns on the turret of that thing. That must be one hell of a ride.

Not in real life, which the appearance of the ship is presumably based on.

Ships fighting other ships and CV aircraft at the same time is a myth.

The probability of needing the main batteries and the AA batteries simultaneously was effectively zero, so using the real estate on top of the main batteries to place more AA makes perfect sense.

WOT, WOWS and WOWP all share the same premium time. and WOT/WOWP share gold but doubloons are unique to WOWS.

Paravanes were minesweepers...

Forgive the crappy paint drawing, it was the best that I could come up with in short order. Paravanes were actually sacrificial devices. They would capture the anchor chain for the mine. Then drag it downward and away from the ship. Detonating the mine when it contacted the paravane. Edit.... I believe that sometimes it would detonate the mine, but it was designed to cut the anchor chain, so the mine would float to the surface, were it could be destroyed with artillery or small caliber guns. (Such as 12.7mm or 76.2mm AA guns.)

Speaking of " What the heck are these?" What are these balls that are on the Tirpitz, Bismarck and similar ships? Did they have something to do with radar?

Those are range finders.

I know the little wings on them are optical range finders. But i am not sure if they had any kind of radar range finding equipped in them.
