Why does experience not carry over from mission stages?

Basically, I just got home and played a game in my Sims and had 3k base experience. Thing is, none of that carried over to the next tier, which would have been tier 2 of the Katori mission that just released earlier today. Not necessarily complaining, but is there a specific reason that it does not carry over from stage to stage? I do decent enough that the missions are not too much of a trouble for me, but this would have been 2k added to the stage two total.

Well only WG could answer for sure, but likely to make it more of a challenge to do. Who knows though maybe someday they will change it to carry extra experience into the next stage.

Base doesn't count Premium as far as I can tell, it only counts the one on the left.

And yeah this had been a thing since the ARP missions

I don't think that was the question.  I think the OP means, if you have 50XP left to complete a stage, and your next mission nets you 2500 XP, why aren't you at 2450 XP into the next stage?  Every stage starts at zero, none of the progress from earlier stages carries over.

I think it is because sometimes the different stages have different requirements.  For instance, Stage 1 might require 5000 base XP, but Stage 2 might require you to set 500 fires.  Obviously in those cases progress couldn't carry over.

This. I was wondering that if the stages have the same requirements though, such as this current mission, why it does not carry over tot he next stage.

Yeah realized I forgot that Re:edited it for that

It may be a server side thing as it cant register the mission complete till the end of the match and as such cant process adding the extra XP because to the servers the mission wasnt completed yet

3k wasnt your base xp, your base xp is on the team score tab.

3k was my base for that battle, total was just over 7k. I had an issue, or so i thought, with an earlier XP based mission/stage and submitted a ticket about it. The support staff told me that the "Earned" section was my base.

EDIT: Apparently I was wrong. Team score tab just showed 1700 earned, yet Credit/XP tab showed 2600 earned.

Because they choose not do have them active all at once at different levels e.g. 1000, 5000, 25000, and 40000 being active all at once.

Then you had the best game ever. Like 10 kills and capped.

Your base is on the team screen. It definitely wasn't 3k as the non-premium was 2 something. It was probably 1525ish I'm guessing.

I'd bet this is the reason. The simplest explanation is often the correct one, after all. When a match ends, your current (in-progress) mission/challenge/task/etc stages have their progress updated. After that, the ones which now have their requirements met are resolved as complete, resulting in rewards issue and subsequent stages to be started (changed to in-progress) as appropriate. Presumably, the system simply does not concern itself with saving progress overflow from previous stages to apply after the completed stage resolution step.

Not necessarily. My highest base XP is 4496 and while I don't remember how many kills I had, my max kills in a game is 6. It is rare, but very possible to hit 3k base xp if you have a solid, well-rounded high-tier game. A t8 in a t10 game (since bottom tier typically has higher XP potential) with a very strong game including cap points, base defense points, spotting, damage, etc. can approach or pass a 3k base xp. Especially in Sims, which is known to get more base xp for the same actions than other ships even before the premium camo bonus (this has come up often recently since Sims tend to lose stars less than other ships in ranked)

Because figuring out and carrying over the leftover xp would be far to much work.

We're talking about a game where you are sometimes notified 3 times for completing a mission, before you actually complete it due to WG's suspect calculations....

It is odd that the xp continues over for containers, but not missions.  I just assumed it was like a 5 part mission put under one screen.  Less programming time making one little screen instead of 5 of them?  I dont know.

But then he said he was in a Sims! :D

Highest base (unmodified) XP doesn't get recorded anywhere that I'm aware of.

Was just working through the premiums and that was the one I ran that game. I still don't play it much anyway, I just need credits for the upcoming Soviet DD split to finish outfitting my Kiev back out for ship modules.

Well, the containers don't use the same counting 'routine' - essentially it is one mission, just triggers an unlock when you pass the intermediate points.  I imagine they could rewrite the mission code to work similarly but it is so far down the priority totem pole that it might as well be buried there.

The API does provide your best base XP on a per-ship basis, with the same caveat that applies to all XP figures—your premium account +50% XP bonus, when applicable, is incorporated into your XP stats. Played through your Farragut without premium, and your best in-game base XP was shown as 2000? That's going to show up as 2000 in the stats API. Played through your Mahan with premium, and your best in-game base XP was shown as 1500? That's going to show up as 2250 in the stats API. This is why judging players on average XP (either at large or per ship) is extremely error-prone.

Example of where to find this value for individual ships:

Serioulsy, pop over to https://wowreplays.com and take a look what it takes to get 3400 base XP.

I'm looking at a Gneisenau who got 9 kills, 8 medals, bunch of ribbons and only got 2255 base XP.

Meanwhile, a T9 gets 5 kills, 5 medals, bunch of ribbons (cap and cap defends) and gets 3,422 base XP.

Base XP is really tough to get.

So, in other words, it probably isn't correct. Especially when we can win premium time so even people who never spent a penny on WoWs have skewed figures.

My best xp in a non-premium ship (4496 was in an ARP Takao) is 4403 with Farragut, and that was prior to getting the Xmas camo plus I wasn't running +XP camo or flags. I'm sure it was a first-win bonus (although don't recall precisely), but even with a x2 bonus that's 2300 and with a x1.5 bonus thats around 3000.

ZOuaJ0p.jpg

For that matter, although I cant find a screenshot of a 3000 base xp game here is a 2700 base xp in a Fiji with only 2 kills and 110k dmg. And Sims gets more xp than Fiji for the same actions even before premium camo.

It's correct, you just don't know an important piece of information about it. You can safely conclude, for instance, that my best-XP Murmansk game above either showed 3875 or 2583 on the team score sheet (hint: it was the lower one).

Each tier is its  own challenge.  Tier 1 is x amount of xp, tier 2 is y amount of xp, etc, through 5 tiers.  Once you get through you would have earned 40,000 in xp to get the ship.

The true answer is the most obvious.
