75 years today that the HMAS Perth and USS Houston were lost in the Sunda Straight. Surprised It hasn't copped a mention today by Wargamming today on the main site.

It'll come tomorrow. Just because it's not today doesn't mean it won't come in the future.

Why not? Because the two ships were lost in a defeat, and in this new era, defeat is a dirty word. Bless the memory of the crews of both ships.

They mention ships which got defeated all the time. If you recall, we had kind of a big to do over Graf Spee, a ship most well known for fighting and losing a battle, then a diplomatic war, then an intelligence war, then being scuttled.

Arizona, Tirpitz, Indianapolis (to name a few) are prominent in game and primarily known for being defeated.

Put the tinfoil hat back in the cupboard. Not everything is a conspiracy to make the world more politically correct or whatever you think is actually happening here.

There's also one of the login screen videos with Operation Ten-Go in mind :hiding:

Also one where I'm very sure it's HMS Hood getting nailed.

It's the Titanic complex.  People tend to love tragic ships more.

See how Graf Spee -> Adm. Scheer in fame, despite the Scheer being by far Germany's most successful capital ship.

Plus one from me for that. Admiral Scheer was the most successfully conventional raider of the High Seas Fleet but gets largely ignored. She also did it much later in the war too. I've seen the ship's bell once when I was in Germany. It was pretty interesting.

How so? Pretty much the entire Japanese and German navies were "lost in defeat." Would you care to clarify what you mean?

Here in Houston it's being remembered

Too bad we don't have Houston to use in the game.  Too much time being spent by developers on their Russian wet dreams.

I'm hoping at some point that tweak the Spee and release a Scheer, perhaps as a reward ship; perhaps moce to T7, boost the AA to late war standards and drop a radar on it.

I would also like to call attention to the fact that this morning saw the anniversary of the loss of the heavy cruiser HMS Exeter, and the destroyers HMS Encounter and USS Pope.

They were attempting to escape to Ceylon after the Battle of the Java Sea, when they were caught between two Japanese cruiser divisions, each centered around two of the Myoko-class heavy cruisers, Nachi and Haguro in one group, while Myoko and Ashigara made up the second.

Exeter was sunk first after a critical hit to her engine room cut her speed to a meager 4 knots...  She sent her escorts off to escape, and was sunk by two torpedoes from a destroyer.

Encounter was sunk not long after by 8" shell hits, but Pope was able to slip away into a squall and escaped... But was then sunk after aircraft from the carrier Ryujo found her about two hours later, and was sunk by her B5N torpedo bombers, using  conventional bombs.
