Premium ships

I have a T7 BB that is a premium ship.. Not much u can do with it,  no upgrades except skills.  I have accumulated 300,000 ship XP .  what good r they? cant spend them.  i really like the ship and i dont want to sell it

Premium ships give bonuses on earned credits/xp in them, as well as allow you to retrain a captain for a different ship while not under the penalties of retraining.

The xp you do earn in them has to be coverted into free xp to be used.

Premium ships serve a few different purposes:

 

• Accumulate convertible xp that you can convert to free xp using doubloons
• Train captains
• Earn Absurd amounts of credits
• Look pretty in your port.

I would definitely want to hang on to that BB man, it can bring you in lots of credits which turn out to be extremely important to have in abundance, especially once you get into higher tier matches. You need doubloons to convert the ship XP into free XP though, which kinda sucks in my opinion.

I'm not exactly sure what Free XP is calculated from.  If it is calculated off of Base XP only, then a premium ship doesn't affect free XP earnings.  But if that calculation includes the "bonus" XP then premiums do earn more.  The difference is probably only 10s of free XP per game or so (which is where Papa Papa flags are handy...)

Some do.  Anshan, for example, has a +100% Free XP bonus included in its camo.  The second Tirpitz camo (Tarnanstrich) that was awarded in a campaign recently also gives +100% Free XP bonus.

The ship is the Sharnhorst,  19K guns, 6K torps 30 knots and manurvers quite well.  I got to level 15 in ranks but got tired of the "experts" telling everybody else how bad they are.  Thanks for all the input

Ah, well definitely don't sell it then.  Scharnhorst is a great ship, but it isn't the best available for ranked battles, and as you've found, there are plenty of players willing to give you their opinion on it, which usually amounts to "if you don't use what I think you should then you are gimped and causing me to lose, because it *can't* be *my* fault".  Ignore them.

Theoretically, each premium has something unique to bring to the table. Some result in interesting gameplay options- Atago tier 8 IJN  cruiser with heal, KM tier 8 Russian with smoke, Lo Yang tier 8 DD with hydro, Leningrad with amazing speed.  Not just credit, or captain training, but I loving playing different and sometimes unique ships.
