It is also well known that the US didn't really know how big and bad the Yamato was till very late in the war. But what if they did? Would they have up gunned the Monty? (assuming they built her in the first place) They did test a 18" gun... http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNUS_18-48_mk1.php Eight gun broadside of these? Whatcha think? I really love playing that ship as it's the most versatile BB right now. It's also the stealthiest which only adds to its effectiveness. You just need to know how to play it. If you have a Yamato or Kurfurst nose in at you, shoot HE and stealth up and watch them burn. If they are broadside at you, then shoot AP because the Montana has the hardest hitting broadside right now. Edited February 20, 2017 by FallenZulu

Needs to be 18.1 inches.

It is only ruined by the overmatch mechanic in a bow tanking setting, a properly angled Montana makes it so you have to shoot at the angled belt armor which easily ricochets the Yamato and Kurfurst shells. But it's citadel is too high, and the Yamato can overmatch its bow.

The ship already delivers the highest DPM of any T10 BB, toning it down to 8 18" guns would be a downgrade.

If the ship was a bit more agile and picked up speed slightly better i would take that over bigger guns.

So, she help taking it, no dishing it out...okay, another one of my bad ideas, LOL.
25 Vagitron Members 119 posts 2,836 battles Report post #13 Posted March 2, 2017 I wouldn't call it a bad idea. It's believe it's probably been presented before since a previous naval game had them as an option, but that doesn't detract from the value of your presentation. I think it would be neat to have an option for a bit of an alternative play style. I don't think it would be difficult to balance between the reduction in barrels and (likely) a reduction in firing rate (each could even have completely different gun arcs). Make the 18s total crap on everything except pen and alpha if need be, no one will complain about having an extra option to change up gameplay. If you're seeing lots of smaller ships, use the 16s, if you're seeing nothing but BBs try the 18s (or keep the 16s, they're Already potent!) T10 is already filled with paper ships and paper guns, the 18" was tested and I don't know of any platform other than the planned Montana that it could have ever been considered for. It's likely it could open up a new method of play for the Monty and at least somewhat modify the current high tier meta. Just balance it as an alternative play style, no need to make the natives restless. i would think that guns are one of the easiest aspects of this game to balance, especially in comparison to the can of worms the potential change to citadel placement in the US BB line will open.
