Seen that the USS Texas is on sale in the premium shop, thinking about buying it. However, I like to know how well the ship preforms based on its tier and what type of Battleship she is. So Is the USS Texas worth getting?

Texas is basically a New York with godlike AAA, at least for a tier V ship. Texas and NY are very similar in almost every other way save for her gun's firing arcs. Basically if you can play one you can play the other. I would pass on her tho. She's painfully slow and is a very easy target for everything except planes. Plus as a tier V ship, she gets spat on my MM constantly. But if you like the NY then you will love the Texas

She's a New York with better turret angles and godly AA for her tier. That's about it really.

She's got a glass chin (don't be 90 degrees angled, go 75 degrees instead, if not 60), otherwise a very very good boat barring the slow speed and sluggish maneuverability.

Its AA is godly no matter the tier, if you spec right. I keep mine around 83, if I recall correctly.

I wouldn't pass on her. Unreal AA, good guns, better than NY due to turret clearance, plus she's a bit cleaner to look at. She is a wee bit slower than NY, but it isn't anything to be concerned about.

I would pass on her simply because I don't enjoy playing BB. As I've stated lots of times, I'm a DD main thru and thru. Also, I believe Texas's AAA caps at 76

Texas has gotten far more rare with all the angst over tier 5 MM, so she's not a common sight to newer CV players. That means you can taunt them into a near Clear Skies, but is in all other ways a premium New York.

The AA is not all it's chalked up to be any more. CV captains are now aware of the powerful but very small AA bubble. They will just circle around you outside of your AA range waiting for the perfect drop angle that your good awful slow ship can't avoid. Texas is now a prime juicy target for CV captains.

First couple games when she first came out I shot down an amazing number of planes. Last game a month ago I shot down 7 and was sunk by the CV. How's that for ironic? I've tried taking her out a few times here and there and I'm targeted by CVs almost immediately now.

The Texas is a good ship.  It has great AA at a tier where you see a lot of CV's.  However, it's also tier 5, which means it gets pounded in the butt when it comes to matchmaker.  It is not competitive versus the tier 7's it sees in 75% of its games.  I would avoid the ship.

55% win rate in Texas in 330+ games which an in-game friend gave me as a gift almost a year ago. A fabulous gift it was. When she is not uptiered against faster T6s and 7s (Dunquerque, Bayern, Fuso Warspite and Scharnhorst), she' s great. Even against the faster ships she can defend herself if you pay attention. She is a prime target for CVs in even-tiered battles strictly to eliminate her fierce AA. If you are top tier without CVs you're in the money pit. With the speed signal on her she'll do just fine.

Got one from Santa, have to say I enjoy it.  Took it out a few times this US weekend to finish the challenge. Have found it competitive when high or middle tier, or HE spammer when low tier.  AA is good, but at the price of secondary guns.  Nice but like Arizona at tier 6

Have mine at 80 on the AA  matches or beats even higher tier BB's

As others have said, if you like the US BBs and especially the New York, you will like the Texas. They are sister ships in the two ship New York class battleships. TX has a little bit better firing angle on the turrets, meaning you don't have to show as much broadside as the NY to get the rear turrets in action. The AA for the Texas is greatly buffed over the New York. I just got the NM, so I have a 10 point captain that I have assigned to share the NY and TX. I spec'd both for AA and the Captain for AA as well.

I took the following modules;

Auxiliary Armaments Module I (AAM1) to protect the AA guns (both the NY and TX only have 6 secondaries)

AA Guns Mod II for extending the range on the AA by 20%

Damage Control Mod I as I went eenie meenie miney mo amongst the options

My 10 point captain is setup as follows;

Preventative Maintenance to protect the main guns, steering and engine as I took AAM1

Expert Marksman as I like fast turning guns. Others recommend Adrenaline Rush instead

Basic Firing Training for +20% average DPS on AA (buff to secondaries is not much as they both only have 6x1 - 127mm guns)

Advanced Firing Training for +20% AA firing range

So this AA spec Texas has 77 for the AA Defense

44x1 20mm AA guns with 190 average DPS and 2.9km range

10x4 40mm AA guns with 191 average DPS and 5.1km range

10x1 76.2mm AA guns with 34 average DPS and 5.1km range

Don't take Manual Fire Control for AA Armament as it works on greater than 85mm guns which the Texas (and NY) do not have. The main battery can fire to 15.6km spec'd this way and the concealment with camo is 15.5km. If you take Concealment Expert as a second level 4 skill, you can get the concealment down to 13.33km and that is my long range plan.

While the AA numbers are nice, the actual AA bubble ranges and DPS are more important.

In Texas' case, her AA is mainly short range, so while she might have the raw DPS equal to higher tier BBs, she will shoot down far less.

Well, that's your loss, then. I'm a DD main, too, but I still play and enjoy the other classes. I even run CV's. :D

Also, you'd be incorrect. Mine is 80. Not 83, but still. :D

Nope no caps at 76.  My 13 skill captain currently has my Texas spec as follows

Survivability : 58

Artillery : 75

AA Defense : 74

Maneuverability : 18

Concealment : 34

Once I get basic fire training I can get my AA defense up to 80, then throw in manual fire for AA and can get +100% damage to priority target.

I like my Texas, she is great at providing air cover for carriers and such.  She also is no slouch, I cruise along at 20.5 knots and I have gone head to head one on one at point blank range with a Warspite.  I walked away with nearly 3/4 health left and he was at the bottom of the ocean.

Manual won't work for TX, her guns aren't big enough. Remember, her secondaries can't be used for AA.

I never take manual fire for AA or secondary anyways.  Just saying I could take it never looked to see if it was viable for Texas.

But my AA damage is as follows

20mm Oerlikon Mk4 - x44 : 174 dps / 2.9km range

40mm Bofors Mk2 - x10 : 175 dps / 5.1km range

76.2mm/50 Mk22 mod. 2 - x10 : 31 dps / 5.1km range

I think her range is pretty good I also if I were to throw on the AA flag I am sure it would help as well.  My upgrades is aux armament upgrade 1, AA gun mod 2, and damage control mod 1.  I couldn't justify rudder or engine mod as rudders and engines don't get knocked out on my Texas that much but people do use HE on me a lot and torpedos so flood and fire risk is better for me.

I play mostly PvE (11% of my battles are random currently), so I save signals and prem consumables for random battles. You are right, with the November Echo Setteseven signal, you are at 80 for AA. It only changes the DPS, so you get 209 for the 44x1 20mm, 210 for the 10x4 40mm and 37 for the 10x1 76.2mm AA.

Manual won't work for TX, her guns aren't big enough. Remember, her secondaries can't be used for AA.

Rusty, TheKrimzonDemon is right. The 6x1 127mm secondaries on the New York class are not dual purpose guns and the largest AA gun is 76.2mm. MCFAA only works on AA guns greater than 85mm vs a priority target.
