Sims in ranked - I hate you; I love you

I am playing my Sims in ranked a lot like I play my Benson and having huge success.

 

Basically I run it as a scout, torper, DD killer. She doesn't kill many enemies nor does she really do much damage but she caps and kills/chases enemy DDs quite well. I was having 100% success but then I ran into a team with 3 radar boats.

 

Her torps are weak and slow but surprisingly effective if you dump them into a smoke as nobody expects them to show up hours later. Flamu suggests stacking them. I definitely suggest only narrow spreads but don't always stack.

 

Her guns are pitiful and the arcs are huge but being a US DD captain, I know just how to aim them. If you shake your butt at the same time, you can kill enemy DDs before they get you.

 

Interestingly, Flamu outlines this style of play. I will use his suggestion to tell the team the time the smoke line runs out. I always said 2 minutes and then warned around 20 seconds before ending.

 

And nobody gets salty at a guy giving you all his smokes.

I made to R11   with 72% WR  in sims.(only lost 2 star and was top the rest of time on a loss)    it can work pretty well even with all the radar.    I do use my smoke on mates, but just started to warn about time remaining.    with reward at higher tier being meh, I am done for the round though.

Shiratsuyu has taken me to Rank 4, but I'm considering a switch to Sims. They are becoming more and more common as I work my way up. The Sims is a better DD killer, and that seems to matter even more as players get more cautious and thoughtful about positioning. Also, if you get caught by radar in the Shiratsuyu, you probably are dead. Sims is much more nimble and faster. 

 

The potato mine torps are holding me back from making the change.

Sims is Mini-Benson so, yeah, makes sense to play it like one. I have been liking Sims more and more each time I bring it out. Thankfully I've managed to normalize my WR in the ship now, with Atlanta now being the only anomaly in my WR column. Terrific knife fighter, great smoke charges, arcs that make using islands ideal, and maneuverability that is amazing. Torps are workable and are really the only thing that makes it a T7. It's basically a C-Hull Benny at heart.
