Other than the differences between South Dakota and North Carolina IRL (armor thickness, AA armament, secondary arcs), Alabama has the Iowa and Montana-type super-high citadel (as of the last time we saw anything of it - the fact those ships are getting it lowered in 0.6.4 means she might not as well), Iowa's surface concealment (16.2km, i.e. worse than NC), tighter turning circle (by 50m), faster rudder shift (15 seconds versus 17.3), and much better TDS (51% versus NC's 19). The Torpedo defense system between South Dakota and Iowa is identical designed. sooooo. whats the difference from NC? IRL... Shorter, better TDS, more modern armor, more modern fire control, I think a slightly larger AA suite as well. In game? Probably just shorter, with a better turning radius and better TDS. Probs Better torpedo protection Along with some size differences and a couple other things above... Praying that it doesn't have the stupid oversized citadel... It probably does. I guess it depends on your play-style and what you use the ships strengths for. I play German and Japanese BBs but did play NorCar on the PT server. I was impressed and understood then why NorCar and Iowa drivers sneak around as unlike Bismarck or Scharnhorst which are virtually useless at <12km you can actually land a group of shells at long distance to great effect. Japanese do it too but their dispersion is far greater than US guns. The citadel issue will need scrutiny and I don't see her as an in-yo-face brawler like Tirpitz but a mid range bruiser with a full secondary build looks very interesting indeed...
