Final Battle Sauce;

It was a long salty, salty journey, but I finally did it. I am now in the last stretch towards rank 1. Just 21 more stars left to gain. May RNGesus look down upon me and give me as I am a faithful believer in the Church of RNGesus. May his randomness guide my path towards the Jolly Roger.

Congrats, I've been stuck at rank 6 for the past 3 days.  Rather bothersome.  Especially since half my losses should of been wins but the team did all they could to flub it up.

Hey Valdez,

I see your Random stats are similar to mine.

Your Ranked stats are pretty bad no dis-respect.

Is it normal for our skill level to make it to Rank5 or better?

Its my first season, and i am finding it odd that some really bad players(not you) are at such a high Rank already.

It's not rare for average-ish players to make it to high ranks. I myself have reached R7 this season, even though I'm only slightly above average.

Ranked is more about dedication than skill level.

Rank is more about fighting to save your star on the losses until which time the MM finally blesses you with a non-potato team.

Unfortunately, individuals fighting to "save their star" is a huge contributor to teams actually losing... :(

That attitude is defeatist and immediately shifts a team towards passivity, which inevitably loses games.

Always go for the win. Going for the, "save your star" strategy every game puts you in a great position to do exactly that... and lose.

I always go for the win, but if Ranked MM threw me an obviously terrible team that loses 3 ships in the first 2 minutes, I'm going into "save my star" mode.

If you make the right plays, you can sometimes win against overwhelming odds. I rarely accept defeat unless it's a literal impossible situation.

Giving up and just accepting the defeat is not in my vocabulary; that just ensures the loss will happen.

I am currently rank 9.0 and have been stuck there for a couple of days, yesterday was a pretty bad day. I would say I am an average player, but I can carry sometimes. When I lose I am top player about 30-40% of the time. I always play to win but these last few days I have noticed really passive / unsupportive play. For example, entire teams camping in smoke, dds camping in smoke instead of smoking then spotting, cruisers hiding behind islands (not just atlantas), people not taking hydro / not using radar. Its really frustrating, does this get any better, or to win and advance do I need to adjust my play style and become passive as well?

The more skilled players that have the time to spend tend to rank out sooner rather than later in a Ranked Season, so the skill level is only going to deteriorate as the season progresses.

I would recommend watching some of your own replays after games and making mental notes of things that could have done to influence the outcome and adjusting from there.

Only by looking at one's own play can a player learn to carry harder. ;)

I am just above average, pretty close to the same bracket that Aduial is.

But.... This is my first Foray into ranked where I actually have an idea of what I am doing. The last time I played ranked I had a very limited understanding of the game or how to win. Even though I have only been playing in the higher ranks so far. I really don't see a lot of correlation between random stats and ranked stats, generally players that are better in randoms will do better in ranked, but... I have seen players that have low stats in random doing very well in ranked and the other way around too. I do not think I will make it that high though, as I just don't enjoy playing alone. I have been a social gamer for my whole gaming career, and that is not going to change anytime soon. I like joining up with friends in a voice channel and division / platoon / squad, whatever and having fun. Solo queueing in any game is not that intriguing to me.

Rank is more about fighting to save your star on the losses until which time the MM finally blesses you with a non-potato team.

I have exclusively been playing Leningrad, and plying it to win. I really don't care that much about not losing a star, but playing to win seems to be getting me there. I have not lost a star yet. (A whopping 7 games in with two losses.)

I go out in front of the team, use my smoke to cover them, use my lack of stealth to bait DD's into shooting at me and spotting themselves for my team to shoot at and using my own high fire chance, not for my own damage, but to bait damage control for my team to take advantage of with fires and floods.

I also use speed flag, boost and WASD, and try to keep as much of the enemy team shooting at me as I can. As every shell shot at me that hits the water is damage not done to my team. To me, it is better than a BB using his large HP pool to tank damage.

Thanks. I need to enable replays and give that a shot. I have been watching a lot of CC on Youtube and it has really helped. I think the biggest issue for me is I am usually an aggressive player and can get impatient and find myself out of position. This is especially true if it seems like the team isnt doing anything.

I played a game the other day where a Kiev stated how his team was playing too passive so he went yolo'ing in. He then kept being passive and an overall very unsupportive in chat. Saying how he won't lose a star because he almost killed a full health BB. This made me so mad and motivated that I went flanking, yolo'd and ended up killing a full health Myoko and chipped down 3/4 health of a Colorado.

I wasn't even mad that we lost. I was gleeful AF as I was the one who didn't lose a star.

If I were to say something to the Kiev, I would've said, "Karma hurts."
