Last ranked season, I had only barely gotten Gneisenau when the season began. I scrambled for about the next week or two to grind up to the Bismarck before I focused on ranked.

This season, I thought I'd make the Z-23 my ranked ship. I was really enjoying both the Gaede and Maass. I put on xp flags and camos to get to the Z-23 and upgrade her for this ranked season. Just as I finished fully upgrading Z-23, it was announced that the ranked season would be tier 7. I was heartbroken.

I decided then that Scharnhorst would be my ranked ship, since I my Kurfurst captain was very close to getting 19 points and that he would be my first 19-point captain. I thought that would be a great way to get a lot of elite commander xp.

Long story short, I stopped playing my beloved German DD line when it was announced that the ranked season will be tier 7. And this (in the spoiler above) game was the first in some time as a break from this season's ranked thanks to the Corgi event (I will be just under 250 doubloons short for my Kurfurst's gold camo after I reach rank 1 and getting one Corgi kill would give me more than enough; simple, right? So very wrong :()

Maass is still viable as a ranked ship, by the way:

Most of my wins so far have been in the Maass. Its lone wolf play style seems to work really well

Good game, but we all know its the exception. German DDs need some love.

yeah, I am honestly not sure about that. For example: I went into ranked this season determined not to play my Maass, because it is not really a team player ship, with its reduced ability to run screens, its limited Hydro, its gun bloom and detection ranges, but I have found it is the perfect ship for picking off outliers, or the already weakened. It even lead to this match, which was admittedly a loss, but 4 kills, 78K damage in a 7v7 format is not something to instantly dismiss.

Let me put it this way: I am able to have games where I am racking up 200+ penetrations with my AP and between 50-70K damage with 1-3 kills average. If I had stealth fire, not even the belfast would be scaring me with the excellent guns on the Maass

I'm just too lazy to have to first retrain my captain to the Maass and then once more back to the Z-23 when ranked is over :P

Oh and apparently, I just found out that my game in the OP is a 4,077 WTR game :amazed:

I don't give WTR any credit because it ignores factors that contribute to wins. Currently the beta version of the passiveness rating from jammin411 is something I lean on more. Now if only he would implement an average overall rating, maybe that would make him more popular

also, thanks to the santa crates giving me friggin emdens, I was blessed with having plenty of 10 point German captains to retrain

I love Zed 23 and 52, have 46 just have not sailed it yet. Grinding a captain for it.  Really fun ships, that remind me of Fletcher, which is probably one of my favorite ships in the game.

Yesterday I got the Z-52 and from tier 7 on up I liked this line. May not have had the best stats but they were fun to play for me. IMO if you can do well in these you can do well in the other lines. I am not saying the line is better than any of the others or worse but from tier to tier they have their own strengths and weaknesses that are not OP nor UP.
