I write. I'm even about halfway through writing a sci-fi novel right now.

I write as well. Although I completely suck with character and story development. I can always do the middle and end of a book fairly easy, but the beginning... It's almost hopeless. I've been trying to write a story I have for almost 6 years now, gone through about two dozen rewrites just to get the character and story development down right, but I still can never get it.

It doesn't help that I have the tendency to want to write it in a script form. And every time I imagine a scene to write it, it always appears in a Manga image in my head. Came to the conclusion that the story is best to be written as a Manga, but I can't draw at all.

That's cool!

I've always wanted to work with machinery and work on personal projects but unfortunately, I'm not quite at that stage in my edumacation.

Gotta just get out there and do it. If you want to do woodworking(highly recommend), google woodcraft or rockler and see if there is a location near you. They have classes and what not.

Wow I didn't even know pen-turning was a thing. That's pretty cool.

I'm a dilettante in other things, but my two other main hobbies are drawing and LEGO, both of which I supposed are not necessarily ship-unrelated.

I collect meteorites, gems, ores, crystals, pretty much anything dug up or mined. The jewels of my collection though, if you'll forgive the pun, are fragments of meteors from The Moon, Mars and Vesta (Not direct samples, but they originated from them), as well as bits of the Chelyabinsk meteor that exploded over Russia 4 years ago, a slice of Space Shuttle Carbon-Carbon Heat Tile from the belly of Endeavour, a piece of raw Uranite (unrefined Uranium)  from the Hartenstein Mine in Easy Germany, and my favourite, a piece of Trinitite from about 25-30 from ground zero at Los Alamos.

Otherwise, I'm an above average artist, and co-author of a novel that's still very much a work in progress.
I also enjoy the company of a very angry rabbit, bird not included.
I enjoy a sizable diversity of anime and manga, consider myself quite the film-buff, and have had years of experience working in and around museums, generally as assistant-curator at my hometown's tiny lil' place. Also pretty well-read into sci-fi, everything from Star Wars and Star Trek to more obscure titles like Stargate and Outlaw Star... and a lot of other series with "Star" in the name... Huh... never noticed that...

I actually don't have any history with the navy at all, closest that gets is my Gramps did some quick welding on the boilers of the Haida when she was in port once, but he was RCAF, not RCN. I'd intended to follow his footprints and join the Air Force but due to several medical problems I was ruled out of any path that might have been interesting. As much as I know the value of it, even in the military, I didn't want to scrub toilets all day.

Lucky bastard... I'm stuck down at 10% of mine done...

to more obscure titles like Stargate

I wouldn't have considered Stargate as an obscure title. I mean, the original show ran for a decade, with a 5 year spin-off known as Stargate: Atlantis, and a few other relatively successful spin-off series. Don't know for sure how well/popular the original movie the TV series was based off of was though. Unless, you mean well read as in, actual written material about the series...

Also, if you couldn't tell, I'm biased towards Stargate. I love that show, well SG-1 and Atlantis at least. I wish Atlantis hadn't been cancelled 5 years in by the Sci-fi(Syfy) channel.

As for me, I mostly just play other games. Mainly single player games, but occasionally I'll get into a multiplayer game as well. I guess I could say I had a few more hobbies when I was taking classes at UK(before my financial situation forced me to move back home to pay off debt before finishing), as I was heavily involved in a campus ministry, but other than that, my hobbies mostly include other games.

I put together military models... but I suppose that is at least partially ship related.

My other big hobby is taking picture of Great Lakes Freighters... but that also has to do with ships....

I also dabble in wood work. I started helping my old man making rocking horses for charity auctions and since he is getting on i do them myself now. Will have to dig up some pics when i get home.

Apart from that bird photography (combines two passions) and a keen fisherman with my own boat. Though that is ship related!

I'm basically a computer geek/nerd. I build and repair computers for friends  and can sometimes earn some extra out of it.

Writing, Katana-Swordplaying, debatable debates, and trying to be a crafter. Do love myself some swimming too.
