Hello and welcome all, I would like to suggest some new game modes. Playing either Standard Battle, Domination, or the occasional Epicenter is getting a little boring. I would like fellow sailors in the community to also suggest new game mode ideas to help broaden the gameplay of this amazing game. One game mode that I would most definitely love to see is "Capture the Flag". Capture the flag is by far one of my most favorite game modes to play, they way this could work in WoWs is we have two different bases; just like a Standard battle, but instead of capping the base you would grab their flag and try to bring it back to your base before you get destroyed. Two captures would mark a win or whoever has the most caps by the end of the game. I'm sure there would have to be changes to a game mode like this to make it work, but it sure would be a lot of fun.

When a team is in a position to enter the enemy base, it usually means most of the opposing team is dead. Perhaps respawns or a flag located in the center of the map instead of in the teams' bases could make it work. As it sits right now, it wouldn't have any noticeable differences from a standard battle.

Ah, very true. So it would be more like a different version of Epicenter. Respawns would be a little OP because of Battleships, but it would prolong the battle time and make it a little more fun. We would just have to come up with a scoring system if the flag was in the middle.

You would need Respawns for Capture the Flag to work, and, even then, it would take a great deal longer to play. Because of this reason, you would need to make it a "special" battle mode, either an event, a permanent battle selection, or something like War Thunder's Enduring Conflict mission mode (something that I hope that they eventually model in WoWS, I had a lot of fun playing EC in my MC 202 and Ju-88 [the only German bomber that I can get to reliably take-off; the He-111 and Fw-200 take too much runway]).

 

The issue of certain classes being over/underpowered through respawning could be solved like this:

1) They are only available from T5 and up.

2) When a player selects a CTF battle, they may select a maximum of 3 ships to take into that battle with them, max tier difference +2/-1. MM is done based off-of the middle tier, and can see one tier lower and up-to two tiers higher (for example, if a player takes a Cleveland and a Bismark into a CTF battle, they get T7 matchmaking, with a restriction against Tier 5s).

3) Players can take ships of any nation into that battle as long as they fulfill the tier requirements.

4) Ships are limited by class (subject to 0.6.0 configurations, as there will soon be a CV rework):

  • 1 CV max, only 2 CVs can be active at a time. In addition, the minimum tier to take CVs is 7, as opposed to 5 for other ships (this ensures that they will see AA cruisers). Finally, the two CVs active must be of alternating configurations. No more than 1 AS or Strike CV per team, the other can be the other configuration or Balanced. CVs can rapidly switch between the Flight Control Modules that they own before entering battle on the respawn screen. In addition, there are check-boxes labelled Strike, Air Superiority, and Balanced, which display the "taken" configurations.
  • Max 3 Battleships per team.
  • Max 4 Destroyers per team.

5) Ships respawn based on timers.

  • Carriers: Respawn 7:00 + 0:15 for every time you've played a carrier in this match (discourages CV-hogging)
  • Battleships: Respawn 8:00
  • Cruisers: Respawn 7:30
  • Destroyers: Respawn 6:00

Alternatively, one could use a Spawn Credit system: Ships have a Spawn Credit cost to use. You would start with something like 5,000 credits, and you would gain credits equal to your Damage Dealt divided by 100 (rounded up to integers) + 500 credits per kill + Spotting Damage divided by 10 [divided by 50 for carriers] (rounded up to integers) + 100 credits for module incapacitation + 10 credits per battle achievement [+100 for each Heroic Achievement]. Ship costs run something like this:

  • Carriers: 4,000 Credits
  • Battleships: 3,500 Credits
  • Cruisers: 2,500 Credits
  • Destroyers: 2,000 Credits

6) CTF matches run for 45:00.

7) Victory Conditions:

  1. Capture the Enemy Flag (Take their flag and bring it back to your own base)
  2. Make it so that none of the enemy team have any spawn credits left.

Your ideas are very good Carrier_Lexington. Having spawn team spawn tokens, re-spawn time limits, and certain tier criteria is a very ingenious idea. Maybe we need to lower the cap needed to just one and that should fix some issues. And the ships limit could also be pretty persuasive, but would present some problems yet could still work. Thanks for your suggestions, very much appreciated.
