I think I almost have my Khab build together, but for the fourth point I am torn between being able to fire further, more rapidly, or penetrate deeper.

minds out of gutters please.

How did you all spec yours? I went with.

+1 preventive maintenace
+2 adrenaline rush
+3 survival expert
+3 basic firing training
+4 IFHE
+4 concealment expert
=17

Khab without AFT now is literally unplayable.

You need Last stand, is a must have for any gun boat DD.

And since Russian DDs cant stealth fire and doesnt matter being spotted because you are always firing, you dont need CE.

I went with ( 19 points ) Priority Targuet(1), Last Stand(2), DE(3), AFT(4), BFT(3), SE(3), Adrenaline rush (2) and for the last point Preventive maintenance.

Russian DD's need AFT

DD's in General need Last Stand as said previously.

IFHE increases 130mm pen from 21.67mm to 28.17mm. Basically it would only help you on bow on cruisers I believe.

I agree with the above.

I just purchased the Khab - my first T10 - and spec'ed it for concealment, at first.

After a couple disappointing matches - I think I've found what works best for me.

For modules - the reload mod, then the two rudder mods - as it lets me dance at max range, raining down fire with a four second reload.

For Skipper skills:

PT

LS

TAE (purely optional, of course - I like more torps), BFT, DE (a must have on the VMF DDs - they are, at heart - twisted fire starters!)

AFT

But yes - AFT is an absolute must - range and speed are your friends in the Khab, as I've found.  Folks know what she's capable of and she is usually a priority target for the reds - ha ha!

Total cost of that skill-build is 16 points.  I have a couple more in hand - just waiting for the 19th and I'll spend them of SI, as I like to run as much of the match as possible with speed boost running.

I specced mine as follows:

+1 Preventative Maintenance

+2 Last Stand

+2 Expert Marksman

+3 Basic Firing Training

+4 Advanced Firing Training

+4 Concealment Expert

=16 points

I use Expert Markesman because this captain is the one I use on my Gremyaschchy (which lowers the Gremy's turret traverse to 24 seconds to traverse 180 degrees).  If you don't have the Gremyaschy (or don't use the same captain) I would not use Expert Marksman and wait until I could get Survivability Expert at 17 points.

Thanks Daniel I like your style. I'm going to miss the IFHE but to be honest Russians should be using AP right? :P

Whenever possible (i.e. against broadside cruisers and the superstructure of BB's).

130mm + IFHE brings your penetration up to 28mm

the T8+ ships that feature <28mm of armor are cruiser hulls.

Yeah, as ppl suggested, AFT is a must-have.

You should be choosing between CE and IFHE.

IFHE benefit is that you can pen a lot of cruisers' 25mm armor now. So if you like to harass cruisers a lot(Khab is definitely capable of this), you will enjoy IFHE. If not, pick other skills.

Went with this but swapped Survivability Ex. and the additional 1 point for CE. I use this captain in Grem and Lenin, CE is helpful imo. Not having Expert Marksman will be a pain but... just have to play a bit farther back.

This is the best build I've come up with for the Khab with a 19 point captain and 500+ battles in it...YMMV

1: PM

2: LS

3: SE, BFT, DE, V

4: AFT

Forget CE, it's a total waste IMO. The Khab is a gunboat and the gun detection bloom is so big you'd think it was a German DD. CE just doesn't do enough to be worth anything and I wouldn't get it for the Khab if it only cost 1 point (well, maybe if we got 20 points and not 19).

I'm using the same build on the T7 Kiev, practicing for ranked battles and doing very well. I keep my distance between 9k and 13k, set fires and dodge incoming fire quite easily at that range.

PT lets me know how many folks are gunning for me and just how wiggly the ship- needs to be,

AR is worth 2 pts, and LS is essential,

I run Health over smoke, so  SE improves the benefit, as does Superintendent and DE to boost fires,

And finally AFT to make sure I can reach out and touch someone, and making it more difficult for the them to touch back.
