Essentially, the USS England sank two submarines on patrol as well as claimed all five kills on a submarine picket line consisting of seven subs. This totals seven submarine kills over the course of her career. Pretty impressive.

RO-105 came up for air at 0310 on 31 May and was immediately detected by George and Raby. RO-105 stayed directly between the two destroyer escorts for five minutes before submerging so neither Raby nor George could fire without endangering the other. Sequential Hedgehog attacks were then made by Raby, George, Raby, and Spangler. All missed. Division Commander Hains then radioed, "Oh, hell. Go ahead, England." England then scored six to ten detonations in a Hedgehog attack at 0736. A major explosion followed at 0741 and a fountain of oil and debris appeared on the surface.

Seems the ship started getting something of a reputation.

Check out RN Captain Johnny Walker's U-boat kill record in the Battle of The Atlantic, in three different ships! King of WWII ASW, without question, who developed the individual ship and group ASW tactics and was relentless in his pursuit of German submarines, tactics that were adoped by all Allied navies including the USN.

Thank you. A man of passion and dedication who literally worked himself to death.
