118 Captain_Rownd Members 1,211 posts 4,665 battles Report post #1 Posted January 22, 2017 I've been playing that pay-to-win $$$ Tanks game for two months instead of Warships. For my comeback game yesterday I loaded up the Bogatyr thinking it's the easiest ship to play and get back into it. However, I really felt out of place, even more than when I stopped playing for 6 months earlier this year. The feel of the game really changed. The audio settings were all out of whack. I think my captain has been hitting the Grog too hard during his vacation! (fell just short of a Kraken, though - lots of sluggish battleships to burn and juicy new german destroyers to eat!) Was the game ran by a company that is ran totally by greed an rely heavily on its own playerbase to update the game for them? ie clan wars, supreme leagues, mods, etc. If your answers are yes to both? It's the same game buddy.

When I started playing Tanks I was struck by how much more pay-to-win Tanks is than Warships. In Warships I don't need to buy anything to sling HE and compete with ships 2 Tiers higher, but in Tanks you get absolutely crushed by higher Tiers if you don't regularly fire premium ammo. I hope Warships never gets corrupted by the premium ammo disease.

Not necessarily brawling all the time, but not a camp fest either, hence the softer Battleship appearance. So with that: Economy changed to reflect spotting (ships and torps) for teammates, potential damage (to you that you avoided - you're now rewarded for economically), capping, defending, etc. etc. Radar (not sure if you were here for that), both on USSR and USN CA's from T8 up (though USN has the Atlanta and Indianapolis that have it, both premiums), only 1 Battleship has Radar and that is the Missouri (obtained through 750k free xp check your tech tree) Captain skill tree has just had a major overhaul. Shipcomrade.com/calc here is a link to a Captain skill point calculator and build to help. AT the moment, WG has significantly reduced the doubloon cost of respecing Captains to help us adjust as there are some pretty interesting changes. Tier changes in MM: Tier 4's will no longer see Tier 6's in "Regular" MM. Only time they will is if they are divisoned with a Tier 5. Which brings me to my next point, not sure if you were here for this, but you can only divison with a +/-1 Tier different shipmate now. No more "troll" divisons IE Tier 2 with a Tier 10 ship. Patches 5.7 and 5.9 had Optimization with regards to files as well as rendering of ship spotting when first seen and smoke/ normal detection dropping. Made it smoother for most P.C.s. Clans have now come, max of 30 people in a clan, though they did say somewhere, can't recall where though, that the number would increase to 100 iirc. Next ranked season will be coming shortly (date and tiers unknown though). Hope there was info in there that you didn't know, but that was off the top of my head. In Warships I don't need to buy anything to sling HE and compete with ships 2 Tiers higher, but in Tanks you get absolutely crushed by higher Tiers if you don't regularly fire premium ammo. I hope Warships never gets corrupted by the premium ammo disease. Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you buy premium ammo with in-game credits? The only thing left to "buy" is vehicles/gold/premium account. When I last touched it, power creep had killed it for me, most everyone has newer and better vehicles, and I was stuck down defunct lines (Maus as an indicator) Not vouching, the fact that it's basically a requirement to use it at all is ludicrous and should have been removed. Regardless, there was a patch a week or so ago that changed Captain Skills, now allowing you to specialize in areas, rather than allowing players to be a "jack of all trades". BB captains for example now focus on their secondaries/AA/stealth/damage output but not all 4 (as an example). In addition, there's many new ships from when the game started, In the most recent additions, we've gotten British cruisers and German Destroyers. British CAs use a 152 mm gun from very early, and it only fires AP. It has a ridiculous RoF and great pen, and from what I've seen they hold their own in every tier. This is also helped by their Smoke consumable (One "puff" and short lived, used for breaking engagements) as well as a healing ability from Tier 4. (They are fragile, and need it to stay in the fight) German Destroyers seem to be performing well, but I haven't seen enough of them past T6 to say whether or not they're any good. Before that was German Battleships, and they're borderline broken. Nassau murders in tier 3, given the other 2 are crap (Scar has zero accuracy as a given). Next notable Gneisenau at T7 has torpedoes (Yes, on a battleship) and it and the Bismark (T8) after it have murderous secondaries (they reach out to like 10km IIRC) Shimakaze is still the worst T10 DD, but Japanese DDs were split at T5, and now have a gunboat branch. They're OK. At Tier 7/8 (I think) they have a consumable that lets them get a free salvo of torps. (reloads torpedoes in 5 seconds, 5:30 cooldown). This has resulted in lots of "POI" being announced in matches. Clans were added, so if you've got buddies that's an option. 2500 doubloons (I think) gets you your own clan, and they're adding features SOON. Plenty of new premiums, ARP special ended with the new year - they're just reskinned copies of their "base" ships and are nothing "special" other than that. T5 ARP is always a Kongou, T7 is a Myoko, and T8 is a Mogami. Murmansk and Atlanta (probably more) have been removed from the premium shop (I don't know when, I just know they were) The Arizona is probably the best tier 6 (I know it certainly hits harder than my New Mexico). Matchmaking was changed, Tier 1 now only sees T1 and has "training ammo" (Black Swan OP). T2-4 has +/-1 so that's nice. at T5 it becomes +/- 2 so if you've got a lot of T5s, be prepared to fight a sea of T7s. Hopefully this is rectified at some point, it is a VERY steep curve for newer players to suddenly be staring down ships with double their firepower. Containers are just fancy Loot Boxes. Get enough XP in a day and you get each level. some of the stuff is nice, and Supercontainers have a chance for ships, doubloons, premium time, 250 flags, or 50 camo. (Something like a 1% chance, so personally I avoid "Try your luck). *Also, the USN got the premium Iowa class- USS Missouri for the low, low cost of 750,000 Free XP at Tier 9. Rated: 5 stars, "it's OK" Hopefully there's something new here for you! Edited January 22, 2017 by NitroLauncher717
211 [QAPLA] Kanzler_Bismarck [QAPLA] Beta Testers 1,186 posts 4,697 battles Report post #7 Posted January 22, 2017 I just cannot find citidels.. Like anywhere. I had a game a few minutes ago in Fuso. It was a tier 6 game and in 61 main battery hits I got 0 Cits. Even against broadside US cruisers at < 10 km.
118 Captain_Rownd Members 1,211 posts 4,665 battles Report post #8 Posted January 22, 2017 (edited) Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you buy premium ammo with in-game credits? You can buy a small number of rounds of premium ammo with credits, and just break even in credits at the end of the match if you use them. They're 1200-2800 credits per shot in many tanks. If you use more than a few rounds you are then losing credits for the battle. Either way you aren't earning credits you need for purchasing new vehicles and upgrades and consumables. Tanks have more upgrades than warships, consumables are expensive, and stuff like binoculars are extremely expensive. The pressure to purchase credits when you are at a disadvantage is VERY strong, and is eventually what I did. It's completely different than Warships because HE in Tanks is basically useless for small guns, and if you can't penetrate you are only able to get XP by spotting for those who can, so you pay for ammo that can penetrate. In Warships a St. Louis or Bogatyr can wreck anything with HE, and nobody worries about whether their torps will bounce harmlessly off enemy ships. I never had any trouble earning millions of unused credits in Warships as a 50% potato player, but in Tanks I'm just breaking even. When I asked if the game is a lot different, I actually meant just visually and audibly. Not the mechanics. The look and sound seems really different, and I'm pretty disoriented. It felt like my captain was drunk, and everything around me looked confused and swimmy. I had to turn the gun volume way down to hear anything else. The look and feel seems really different than two months ago. Edited January 22, 2017 by Captain_Rownd
