RPF is a skill directed AT the IJN DD line more than any other. Most of us would like it to go away, but that is not happening anytime soon.

Is RPF a worthwhile skill for a stealth torpedo build DD? If so, when would you pick it up?

I could see it having some use to warn you somebody is coming after you that you can't see yet, but are there are other skills that will be more useful, more often?

I use it on all my ijn dds, except akizuki (which I do not have yet, but still wont use RPF on it). I mentioned in the other thread, I used only RPF to sink enemy dd in the cap by covering the full RPF ark with 15 torpedoes.

If you can figure out how to use RPF past what the skill tree description says it does RPF will be great for you. Use it to augment all the existing free info the game gives you. Use it to augment your own game sense. If you can do that your mini map will become a much more useful tool than it currently is.

^This.

The following is from an earlier post of mine.

How I am currently using RPF:

1. When capping in my DD, it will allow me to pre-set my guns in the general direction of where the closest ship will be.

2. Use it to confirm that no other ships will be close enough to spot me when I attempt to invisifire.

3. Use it on my IJN DDs to keep my distance from any ship that isn't my primary target.

4. Use it to more accurately send my torpedo spreads in smoke.

5. Use it to negate any and all ambushes or flanks by enemy DDs ships.

6. Use it in conjunction with mini-map, last known locations, and remaining enemy ship types to gauge which ship RPF is tracking and decide whether to engage or avoid said target.

have reset almost all my DDs with RDF, it helps capping and hunting, esp. the last survivor on the other side.

You need it, if for nothing else, to counter pretty much every single USN and RU DD running it right now.

If they have a bearing on you, but you have no clue where they are, you're in a very bad spot...

I hate the idea of this skill and was reluctant to use it.  After playing Shiratsuyu and Fujin with RL for a while, I added it to Benson, Shimakaze, and a couple other DDs. For me, RL is the second 4-point skill for any DD which does not need AFT to excel.

In addition to enhancing your map awareness, there is a psychological benefit from having the "Located" indicator show up on your enemy's screen.  Yes, you will lose some torp kills. However, you will win more battles. Players don't want to be "located" and I've seen a push stop when whoever was lead ship stopped or turned as soon as they were "located" as being in front. This effect may fade over time, but it certainly works now.

Yeah, for me it is basically a trade off between AFT and RPF. I'm used to not using RPF so I generally prefer to spend my points on other things like basic firing training or torpedo armament expertise.

I use it on the Simakaze. Helps me avoid death by other DD thought out the game.

In my 50 some odd games in the Simakaze, I've managed to torpedo two unseen Destroyers using it.

I tried it out on the Yugumo but didn't think that it was critical. The Yugumo can at least defend itself with the gun upgrades and a little luck.

I've been running it on my Fujin/Mutsuki captain. Not sure it is the most efficient use of points but it does help avoid running into what are invariably more powerfully gunned ships (since MM puts you against Tier 7 all the time and EVERYTHING is better gunned than a Mutsuki). Knowing there is no unseen enemy ship ahead allows me to cruise at high speed into an area. Seeing that there is one there tells me I need to go elsewhere or proceed with extreme caution. Not enough TT at that tier to make a wall for most blind fire attempts but it can let you know somebody is heading into a  chokepoint that you can't see assuming there are other red ships you can see to get the maximum range the of the unseen ship.

I have also used it to run down wounded enemy DDs that I think I can sink (before they sink me).

Still would rather not have the skill in the game.

Weird game/computer mechanic that the skill often points behind you at the start of a match.
