RPF is bad for the game as a whole. You can easily abuse it, especially as a DD. If WG wants to give you a cheesy "track everything" skill why not abuse the hell out of it?

Played bunch of battles in BBs, CAs, and DDs today.  All high tier.  BBs play is pretty much same as before, CA are more fun, and DDs are most fun.  Liked the update across them all.

you are literally going to push your opinion on every skill thread aren't you... without even TRYING to play.....

Adaptation is the KEY to improvement.... so obviously.....

I am rapidly becoming disenchanted with this game, simply because WG insist on fixing things which aren't broken and adding "perks" (Dasha's word) which aren't needed....or wanted.

The impression that I get is that rather than dismissing the section of their programming staff which programmed the core of the game - and who are no longer required - they have given them the task of adding "features" just for the sake of giving them something to do which can be seen by management as "essential to the improvement of the product".

I have italicised that quote because it is exactly what we did in 2001 (I was in IT back then) when the "Y2000-Bug" crisis fizzled into nothing and a team of programmers assembled in 1999 specifically for the event became redundant overnight.

So we gave them the job of making changes to our operating software and procedures which were intended to "improve"......which they didn't.

DDs are unplayable now.  The whole stealth mechanic is gone with radio detection finding.

You win the daily dramatic hyperbole award. Congrats.

I had a very enjoyable game or two in my Akatsuki, didn't get RP'd much. And even then, mainly by USN DDs.

It's pretty funny to approach a CA or BB with it from the side. Sure they'll know where you are... but if you're working with your team there's not a lot they can do about it. Pointing at the marker doesn't work when it means BBs see your broadside.

Lategame solo situations, yeah, it's makes DD carries pretty hard. But I can sorta understand if that was WGs goal from the start. They probably wanted to cut a late game DD's insane influence, as well as shortening the "endgame". I wish WG would publish the numbers but I wouldn't be surprised if at least half of any game's length consists of the remaining 1/4 or 1/3 of each team slowly slogging it out.

Now I can't say if Radio Positioning would chance that, but I can see WG adding it for that purpose.

I must say that I'm not a fan of the radio positioning.  The way that it points directly at the enemy ship is very powerful.  I would have prefered that ships with radar have a little circle to the side of the screen, divided in to 4 sections by a cross inside the circle.  Each piece of the pie would represent a quadrant, namely NE, SE, SW, and NW.  The ship nearest to you would light up the piece of the pie in reference to its positioning relative to you.  That would still give a direction, but it would be vague enough for it to not be a complete gimme.

Oh, we've adapted already. On a side note, does sticking a 19 pt captain with RPF into a Gremy make me a bad person?

That doesn't change how badly RPF affects the game in general though.

Upon more playing, I've come to the decision that i just won't play DDs any more.  Sure, some may like the new mechanic, but I don't.  Just means that if WG releases new premium DDs I won't be buying any more.  More money for me!!

I've played 40 or so games so far and yet to run into someone running rpf, either people are not using it or the only people using it are on my team. So far im fine with it, I can still blitz with my sims and mahan without any problems.

An excellent idea but one that WG would never adopt because it is too close to simulating the real thing. And we can't have any of that going on with this fantasy FPS, can we?

That's what it already does, except it has 16 slices instead of 4.

Heads-up radar displays never existed in any of the ships depicted in this game. :teethhappy:
