so I did the santa crate thing since it seemed like it would be a while before we got a chance to pick up the rare pre-order ships again like Nikolai and Gremy

while I've been enjoying the crap out of the Nikolia since it's so OP that even a noob like myself can do well, I've been having trouble in the Gremy. I want to learn destroyer play since it seems very interesting and rewarding but difficult, much like light tanks in WOT which I also enjoy.

I've heard you can "invisifire" and it's the strongest suit of it.

are there any tutorials or videos or anything out there that can teach me how to make this ship work? I looked on Flamu's channel but couldn't find a Gremy video. but I don't want to watch a noob channel and receive bad advice, problem is i'm not good enough to tell the difference yet.

also which captain perks should I get for it? I have 10 points I can distribute

Dont play the gremy yet.

Play cruisers, battleships, and destroyers in the tech tree up to tier 6, or 7.

Then go back and play the gremy. Get the Advanced Firing Training skill, and Demolition Expert. Then shoot ships.

1st step

Get a 17pt captain

Basic Fire Training

Expert Marksman

Last Stand

Super Intendant

Advanced Fire Training

Concealment Expert

Then proceed to wreck everyone else.

You kinda need to learn your stealth range and unlike all the other RU DDs think about dumping torps first and then going to guns. It takes a bit of DD knowledge between all the destroyer playstyles to actually know how to play something like the Gremy well.

This can't be stated enough. You are doing your team and yourself a major disservice by playing mid to high tiers without any clue on what you are doing. Slow down, park all those tier 5+ ships you got from the Santa boxes and work your way up a line or two until you get a much better grasp of the game. Looking at your stats the only tech tree ships that you have played are a couple of tier 2 cruisers, you are definitely not ready for the tier 7 and 8's that you have been playing. Once you learn the game better, then you can go back to playing all those premiums you have

You need to know your detection ranges and shoot from stealth. Learn to put down smoke well and learn good times to smoke so that you can sit in your smoke and burn BBs and other ships with fast shooting fire flaming guns.  The gremy is a stealth shooting flame thrower play it as such.

This is somewhat out-dated but Gremy stats aren't changed since then. (will be more complex with upcoming skill rework)

With 10pt Captain I would take:

Basic Firing Training

Expert Marksman

Superintendent

Advanced Firing Training

With this you have a firing range of 14.3km but are only spotted at 10.6km when shooting -> you stay ~11km from enemies (preferably BBs but Cruisers will suffer too) & pelt them with HE.

The aim is to set stuff on fire 1 or 2 times, when they put out the fire you make them burn again & they will take the full fire damage.

Often set one on fire, switch to another target & set them on fire too then go back to the first who probably has put out the fire again by then.

You may be spotted by something hidden (typically another DD) within 10.6km -> have to either disengage or try to find/engage the hidden ship.

I use Main Battery Mod 2 which helps the gun traverse at expense of RoF, enables guns to keep up with a 1/2 rate turn, otherwise you will have the difficult option to shoot or to evade (especially when duelling DDs) but not both together.

Once you get Captain to 14pt add in Demolition Expert for easier fire setting. Some people prefer to wait for 15pt -> Concealment Expert which lets you Invisifire from just under 10km but I found the easier fires with DE more useful.

A big trick is in keeping discipline to not rush in, get spotted & die early to concentrated enemy firepower. You need to stay alive to get lots of fires. But you also can win battles with a well timed rush in...

Also since base detection is 6.7km and you have 8km torps you can/should get in some stealth torping which can easily double your damage if you land some. (but you sacrifice a lot of chances to shoot at enemy/start fires to do it)

Don't forget about AP: a lot of Cruisers can be Citadelled under about 8km if you catch them broadside, similarly AP into broadside BB superstructure can do much quicker damage than HE.

Use your ten points for BFT - EM - SI - AFT and take DC2 because you don't have last stand.

Race for caps, pop smoke and rain fire.  When the cap is yours - range back and forth at more than 10km from a red BB, stealth firing from invisibility.

Make the odd foray in to dump your 8km torps from stealth, or use them to deny caps, channels, or opportunistically around islands or choke points.

As soon as you can, add DE to your captain, that way you'll be that much quicker to TAE, for more torp spam.

I love playing the Gremy - it is seriously a blast - though sometimes I feel kinda dirty, after a good game - ha ha!

there's no reason I can't play coop battles. it's all noobs in those matches anyways.

are caps a big factor in this game? I know flamu stresses it a lot

I ask because for the most part capping is a waste in WOT except for a few certain instances

is main battery 2 a lot better than aiming systems? I know the guns turn slow on this ship but I figured the reduced dispersion would help with sniping from range. in any case I can swap em out, theyre cheap at low tier

is there a way to tell which crusiers can be citadelled? I couldn't find any penetration values listed in game

broadside cruisers within 10km is cit'd   with russian guns.      also AP is pretty strong against the super structure.   but becareful when you get into t7  as some of those  DD will meat grind you.

Russian destroyers are the hardest to master, you should go down the USN Line or at least the RU Cruiser line before even attempting the RU Destroyers.

RU Destroyer captains rely on constant fire & exceptional map awareness.

The Gremy, despite being clearly overpowered, is still rubbish in the wrong persons hand.

How to stealth-fire? You need videos? What are all those extra circles on the minimap for?

The circles aren't on by default, IIRC.

2: Put BFT, AFT, SI, LS on it

3: Find targets within 14Km, greater than 10.6Km and pewpewpewpewpewpewpew

4:????

5:  Profit with much balanced soviet steel

There's been one major change since that video:

Concealment expert no longer reduces the penalty when you fire your guns.

I turned the circles on but I don't know what they mean and I don't think they show detectability when firing.

for future reference, is there a way to know what your detectability when firing is? I know the gremy is around 11km but it would help to know for other ships

i've been trying to invisifire but stupid planes keep detecting me. playing coop battles i still suck lol. trying to get torps in when i can but so far it's been more of a defensive tool.

this is my best game so far

Blyskawica plays the same way. It takes a bit not to succumb to the pressure of players who think all destroyers do is yolo in for caps.
