After hearing, (reading) the lament of USN CA players, I thought that since they do not carry torpedoes they needed another job.

They have detection: radar, sonar and air defense.  What they need to do is to help damage control/fire fight near by ships.  Their damage control would be used, if near (touching?) a team member to help put out the team members fires.  If their damage control is on cool down or if they are on fire them self then it would not work.  Bonus given for putting out fires on team members. This should encourage team work and keeping close to fellow players.

This could be quite interesting and promote more team play, which is always good. I personally think this is a good idea. Although it never happened in real life.

but, it did happen, there are several WW2 photos of CA/CL's alongside CV's helping put out fires caused by kamakazis.....

Because the concept of firefighting had only been discovered by the American Navy by the year 1945.
