with the Admiral Graf spee being released as this years gift ship(finally not a free port slot, why can't wot release a tier VI gift tank?(their too cheap probably)), it had me thinking about the future. Since Graf spee is the first technical Battlecruiser to set foot in World of Warships, I believe that war gaming is using the Graf Spee as a test to find out if battle cruisers will work in WoWS. This could potentially lead to, or perhaps confirms, that the battlecruisers are coming(likely with German Battlecruiser line, or sub branch off the current cruiser branch, is being worked on). Just a theory, although It does depend on how the Graf Spee works out in the end I believe.

Spee was a cruiser with battleship guns, not a battlecruiser. She was designed so that most things fast enough to catch up to her (cruisers mostly, since she outran heavier ships of the day) would be outgunned by her armaments. That was the theory of her design.

Battlecruisers were faster than her, and the only ships at the time that could both catch and outgun Spee and its sister ships.

Graf Spee was never a battlecruiser, it was always a heavy cruiser.  In addition, there are several battlecruiser designs in the game already (Myoko, Kongo, Amagi, Scharnhorst, Gneisenau), but they are included in the BB class.

1. Amagi, Kongo, and Myogi were the first battlecruisers to enter the game, they may be indicated as battleships but that is because war gaming doesn't intend to give battleships and battlecruisers different identifications. There is no need to test battlecruisers with a single premium ship anyway.

2. Graf Spee is not a battlecruiser, nor is it a battleship, Graf spee and the rest of the class were unique cruisers built with battleship weapons. Germany considered them heavy cruisers, and the whole confusion about them wouldn't be an issue if good old Britain didn't start spewing "they're pocket battleships!" nonsense. If anything Graf Spee shows us that cruisers in the future won't be limited to 6 or 8 inch guns

OP, you serious?

gift ship? - Wut?

why can't wot release a tier VI gift tank? -  what does this have to do with WOWS?

(their too cheap probably) - "their"?

Since Graf spee is the first technical Battlecruiser to set foot in World of Warships - seriously? Where have you read all this? It is not a battle cruiser. It is a cruiser. And as for first, we already have several battlecruisers in game (e.g. Amagi, Kongo)

We already have heavy cruiser exceeding 8inch caliber before Graf Spee: Moskva with 220m and Yorck 210mm

Personally I like collecting low tier gift ships, but seeing as nothing came last Christmas I guess WoWS isn't doing that anymore. Makes me appreciate the Albany and Emden in my port.

yes, because 8.1 and 8.5 inch is so much bigger. I'm talking 9 inch guns and higher.
