First off, purely out of curiosity please take a look at the survey. The statistics of the player base and how many of you like or don't like anime/manga is intriguing.

Next, a disclaimer, since apparently the forum's been inundated with "WHERE'S MY ARP SHIP" and "HOW CAN I SELL MY ARP SHIPS", this is pretty much along those lines.

Ok, so call me crazy and it seems I'm among a minority but I don't like anime or manga. I've seen a few but eh. Please don't recommend any. In that vein, what's the deal with Wargaming and the ARP stuff? Was there really a contract signed as a cross promotion? Is that why we can't sell the ships?

On second thought, I don't mind not selling the ships, but the skins are friggin' garish. And then the squeaky anime voices really don't help either. Please Wargaming, at the VERY least have an option where setting the voice in the menu overrides the ARP ships. For example, ARP ships with normal camo and the Pirate voice. Or standard Japanese voice.

Preemptively, yeah yeah, I COULD just hide them in the carousel but I'm still grinding for the Graf Spee and they'll be a convenient source of free XP for the Mighty Mo. But also, it'd be really nice to sell them, even at a severely discounted price.

I am with you on this but might want to gird yer loins for the crapstorm you are going to generate. Personally don't care one way or another about the cartoon ships, but want to keep one or two in case an event comes up where you need one. I would love to be able to sell them and just keep a couple but you should at LEAST be able to dismiss the ones you don't want permanently as well as remove the extra captains from the reserve. The ARP people did a terrible job promoting their product by making themselves intractable with how their product was used in game. The "all or nothing" option was stupid and not well thought out by ARP or Wargaming for that matter. Instead of building on their fan base, they catered only to their fans and alienated a big chunk of potential consumers. Anyways it hardly matters, the RNG goddess blessed me with an Atago in a $3 Christmas box so now I relegate the silly looking ships to the dustbin unless I need them for an event.

From the developers:

2Das_Schlippo: who defines the distinction between money grabbing and fair monetization tactics?

The mere restriction of premium content to payers only without the ways to earn it for free may be considered as money grabbing.

Some tactics just look bad in comparison to history and expectations, but are perfectly neutral if you look at them from the outsider's perspective.

Having said that, we realized that this innovation will drive negative reactions. But we can't stop trying something new just because of this concern.

When we released Arpeggio in January we also knew there will be negativity. However, it turned out over time more players enjoyed non-historical fantasy content than left our game because of it.

Maybe this is not a perfect analogy, but I'm just trying to illustrate a burden of decision maker to make such calls and then either succeed or learn.

In this case we've learned something. :)

(Note: I am not an anime-watcher/manga-reader, just in case someone accuses me. And usually, at least one person makes the mistake of doing so.)

So about your question, yes, there was a contract signed for the promotion. That is why you cannot sell the ships.

And also, if you don't like the voices and skins, don't play them, or use mods to make them look and sound like normal tech-tree ships.

To be fair, the "more" quoted by the WG talking head could be just 2 more people. I seriously doubt that many more people were drawn to ARP/anime because they included the ships in the game. If they give a boost to free xp, that would explain why people tolerate using them (not talking about fans of the show here). If they were such popular ships or there was such a large group of players (not already fans) drawn to the content, there wouldn't be the weekly "lets do something about ARP ships" thread. (didn't realize it only quoted part of your post LuckyOtter).

Not to be argumentative, but I believe that the contract that Wargaming had with Ark Performance (the studio that produced the manga that started it all) has expired, right? Now, I'm not a contract lawyer, and I haven't seen this contract, but, unless it was specifically mentioned that the ships could never be sold -even after expiration-- in the contract, then I think that Wargaming would no longer be bound by the terms of the contract, just as they are no longer able to receive payment from Ark Performance or continue awarding ARP ships to people.

Anyway, that's all conjecture. If the contract does prevent Wargaming from allowing the ships to ever be sold, then who negotiated that contract? Why?

I don't watch it regularly, but if something peaks my interest I'll certainly watch it.

I'm not opposed to having it in game since it can be turned off from viewing if you don't care for it.

I would imagine the next anime content (coming up this year) will be the same way.  That series is where "poi" comes from I believe.

A few of them could be useful. A dozen of the same ships can be a hindrance to the fleet owner.

It would take a ton of credits to upgrade all those duplicate ships. Add to that all the battle time taken away from other ships and captains and it easily negates the one advantage that ARP advocates promote; that you can experiment with different ship build outs and captain skills. If someone wants to spend those kind of credits and time experimenting then go for it no one's stopping them.

Now for those of us that don't want to spend time and credits on the exact same ships we should have the option of cleaning up our ports of unwanted ships.

Let me make this perfectly clear as well... I don't want to profit in any way from this... just give me the option of getting rid of the ships/port slots and captains that I neither wanted or use.

I would use the ARP ships if they didn't talk in Japanese!  I can't understand what they are saying!

Just learn the words for torpedo (gyorai) and destroyer (kuchiku-kan). That's the important stuff. :D

To the OP, the reason you can't sell them is because they were given away for free as part of an event you didn't have to be a part of if you didn't want to and selling them was never intended as a part of the reward. Or put another way, you can't sell them because WG didn't want them to be a source of credits. Because reasons.

I've never understood why the anime content is even a "thing".

Turn them off and just keep them. You'll never know they are there and maybe something might come up down the road where you'll need to use them to open up something that you might want.

Why is this such a "thing"?

Overabundance of things that are more worthwhile to complain about here. :teethhappy:

No and No. I don't have an issue with the anime crossovers WG has, but I have issues with the utter cancer that other animes have. I believe one shows a girl getting impaled just below the neck with an umbrella.

Yeah, creepy [edited]crap. One of the reasons I don't like anime in games because people drag things into the forums that are so disgusting at times...

...half naked "adults" drawn like 13 year olds...

...creepy Asian culture...

...anti-western and anti-not-japan attitudes...

...otaku and weeb crapeverywhere...

...It boggles the mind!

For me the issue is that I have 4 of the exact same Kongo and Myoko taking space in my port; further I have 8 excess ARP captains in the reserve which you can't get rid of.  Just let us keep what we want of these ships and captain and disgard the excess, especially since the next wave of Anime is going to come and take up more space.

They don't take up spaces in your port since they come with their own special port slots. The extra ARP capatins also came with extra reserve slots, so they have not taken up anything you had before.
