So I was on the internet looking up some stuff on wikipedia, and the webpage I click on auto redirects to this...

The middle one is the best.

It came from this website which I will put in a spoiler here.

 http://we-are-gamers.com/world-of-warships/8b/?voluumdata=BASE64dmlkLi4wMDAwMDAwMy0zYTc3LTQ3NzItODAwMC0wMDAwMDAwMDAwMDBfX3ZwaWQuLjBhNjIzODAwLWQ3YWEtMTFlNi04MzY2LWVjYTE1ZmExNzQxNF9fY2FpZC4uMjczY2RlMWUtM2RmYy00Y2QyLTkzMmMtNjlhMWM1NzI5MDAxX19ydC4uUl9fbGlkLi5iYWFlZWZhNS1mMmJmLTQwYjUtOTViMi00OTgzZTYzMzM5NDRfX29pZDEuLmRlMDg2YTZjLThkN2YtNDAwOS04MjAzLWM1YmRmYzhkMjNlMV9fdmFyMS4uMTQyNTk2My0yMjIwNTQ4MTQ2LTBfX3ZhcjIuLlVTX19yZC4ud3d3XC5cdHJhZGVhZGV4Y2hhbmdlXC5cY29tX19haWQuLl9fYWIuLl9fc2lkLi4&key=TEt6aHVraHNnS0JWUHNEN1RUZWVXZz09&zone=1425963-2220548146-0&country=US&clickid=14841050071221195341100429769450865

Every time you go to it, it randomizes it's garbage adds. However it's funny how this crap ACTUALLY leads to signing up a new player for World of Warships. I think that is a problem if they can put up ads like that.

Were those ads even created by WG? Because I have a hard time believing that.

This might explain the new influx of baddies we've been having lately :teethhappy:

To be fair, though, this game does have a rather challenging skill ceiling.

Not sure why people think this is actually WG ads.

Friendly reminder that WG put out this ad for WoWs.

It's not the content that is the problem. Not to mention those images show a fking tank.

This We-are-gamers.com redirect is usually caused by adware installed on your computer. These adware programs are bundled with other free software that you download off of the Internet. Unfortunately, some free downloads do not adequately disclose that other software will also be installed and you may find that you have installed adware without your knowledge.

Once this malicious program is installed, whenever you will browse the Internet, an ad from We-are-gamers.com will randomly pop-up.
These ads are aimed to promote the installation of additional questionable content including web browser toolbars, optimization utilities and other products, all so the adware publisher can generate pay-per-click revenue.

You literally have adware on your computer. Because that's not a WOWS ad, that's a fake ad masquerading as WOWS based on your browser history.

In addition, that link you posted has encoded data from your computer being sent outbound to the malware attacker's site, so you should probably remove it.

Surprised some parents did not lose their minds over that one.

It's a Japanese Ad - different culture and all that stuff.

Oooh. That's cool to know. My old PC used to be infected with a lot of crap. Ever since I've gotten my current one 2 years ago, it's been running smoothly all the time. I feel that running ad-blocks on your browser helps with these malware crap you encounter so easily nowadays online.

Adblockers won't block adware and other assorted crap from riding along with free software downloads.

Scan everything you download, and check what you install.

Also always go with "advanced installation" when possible, especially with freeware. Many times you will find it's just a tickbox to uncheck the installation of adware or dubious software. For example: "Search Protect by Conduit" I see on so many peoples computers it's not even funny.

Actually, North America seems to be uniquely prudish.

Even in Europe, that kind of ad would probably be acceptable.

No way...that is tame compared to some commercials run in Japan.

Wouldn't raise an eyebrow.

Preeeeeettttty much this.

Also people tend to forget that Japan has a very different mentality when it comes to this stuff.

Two big things though:

1).  They're not super protective of children.

2).  Gender roles.  Many Japanese women I know would face palm if they saw that, then sigh and say "boys will be boys".
