Greetings all,

Let's play a little game eh? I'll post a picture of a ship and you lot will have to try and identify it. The picture may show only a portion of the ship or may be blurry or taken from a distance... the point is these will be slightly challenging. Once the ship from the first photo has been correctly identified I will post a picture of another ship and so on and so forth. Note: No modern ships (1950-present day) will be included.

RULES:

NO CHEATING! Please refrain from using the "search google for this image" option. You can search the internet, your books, your mind and any other means necessary to try and identify the ship but please, for the sake of fairness, do not use the afore mentioned search option.

One guess per post. You can guess as many times as you'd like but to keep from people spamming random ships I ask that you only guess one ship per post.

First image.... already guessed

Whosoever can identify the camouflaged ship in this picture will receive 1,750 gold as a reward. I am confident that no one will be able to identify it.

Already Identified. It's Tsingtau. Congrats 715 and TenguBlade!

Guessing it's HNLMS Abraham Crijnssen. One of the few survivors of Java Sea and Sunda Straight and the only ship I can recall that looked like an island.

The first ship is either North Carolina or Washington

The first ship is likely a South Dakota-class with that phone-booth arrangement of anchor chains and AA guns on such a stubby bow, but there aren't enough details to differentiate between the four sisters from just the perspective of the #1 turret.  Going to take a stab and label it Alabama.

The top photo is a North Carolina or South Dakota class, I can recognize it by AA gun arrangement.

The bottom photo is like this trying to recognize it:

Correct! It is USS Alabama!

That's why it's worth gold. ;)

There is a hint in that picture that sticks out like a sore thumb... if you know what that is you will better be able to identify the mystery ship.

Well, if that's what I think it is moored alongside the ship, then I think I've got it.  She's USS Jamestown (PG-55), an MTB tender that was originally a yacht, donated to the Navy at the end of the 1920s.

For the gold picture I'm guessing Tsingtau because instead of a PT boat moored alongside I feel it is an E-boat.

D'oh, that's not jungle foliage, that's deciduous and evergreen forest.  That should have been my clue.  That's also a German E-Boat by it, so I'm calling it a KMS E-boat tender, probably KMS Tsingtau since she was assigned to an E-boat flotilla.

Graf Spee

Can't be her, she doesn't have that many windows on her superstructure, nor are they so low.  Admiral Scheer and Graf Spee were both built with largely one-piece bridges that didn't have windows in those spots.

Either this is Scheer after her refit in 1940, or it's Lutzow; the angle makes it hard to tell at what precise level the windows are.

Correct!! Ding ding ding! The "sore thumb" was the S-boot moored along side. You put together the puzzle perfectly!

I'll send your reward in a bit
