When to go after a carrier?

After coming off a match on New Dawn where a bunch of my team decided to chase the carriers while the enemies were able to walk into B (they had A already captured), I wanted to bring this up. Fortunately, we still won the match.

I did want to rage at my team, but at the same time, I did understand the want to eliminate the carriers. Personal stat boosts aside, a good carrier can be a significant threat to your team, so sinking them would be a huge benefit. However, carriers tend to be located at the edge of maps, so chasing one will most likely mean putting your ship out of the fight for a while.

I'd like to hear your input on this. When should you go after a carrier?

When it doesn't take you out of the battle in the process or if the win is secured.

Personally, I go after the CV if I see it and it's close, by which I mean I can reach it with shellfire. My purpose is to set it on fire, and put it momentarily out of the fight. I'll hunt one down only if it's making my team suffer. I will otherwise not chase after one ship, unless it's the only ship left. That kind of tunnel vision gets you sunk and loses the match for your team.

only if they don't have a dedicated battleship escort.
