Petition to save the Texas:https://www.change.org/p/texas-state-senate-save-the-battleship-texas-she-is-in-dire-need-of-funding

The Battleship Texas is dying. She is taking on upwards of 2,000 gallons of water every day. The Texas was launched in 1912, and she is the last Dreadnaught Battleship in the world. She's one of a kind, she served in both world wars. Without proper funding, she will completely rot out and sink. Millions have visited the ship, and she has a special place in many people's hearts. Texas is irreplacable. So I ask you, the World of Warships community, please, sign this petition.

Isn't this why they are moving her to a dry berth. For this very purpose?

They don't have the money to do it, though, which is why the petition is a thing.  They want the Texas legislature to give the Texas the proper funding it needs.

Dont have money for it. All the money that was for this had to be diverted to repairs to keep her floating.

Signed it.  I credit a visit as a kid to the USS Texas as what inspired my interest in naval history in the first place.  I've donated to her cause before, and agree that she absolutely needs to be preserved.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. :honoring:

Signed it... You should send an email to Wargaming to see if they may take a special interest in saving and forever preserving USS Texas.

Donating some money will actually help.  Any online petition? *snicker*

Actually, according to a representative of the Battleship Texas Foundation I spoke to last year, WG has donated a significant amount to them already.  Learning of that has certainly raised my opinion of the company, and made me even more inclined to throw money at them.

Since WG already has an established relationship with the foundation (there were talks of putting in a WoWS trial kiosk at the museum), perhaps some sort of event could be organized to help provide Texas with the funds she appears to be in more dire need of than ever.

It looks like the Texas legislature has given the money needed - at least temporarily. I'm sure they could use more, and hopefully some people will donate!

Yea online petitions don't do anything, other than steer people in the right direction. (Hey, this project needs help, how about donating.)

I remember when the HMNZS Wellington got old....  Someone decide to scuttle it off the coast near Wellington (NZ).  It's now a reef for divers.

I wish you all the best in your cause, and I only mention the above as the Wellington is still a source of pride to the Wellinton's.  Perhaps the awesome people of Texas  would like to fund for their namesake and pride?

Maybe WG could turn Texas into a recruitment station for WoWS (kinda like how Bovington and other tank museums have been turned into WoT recruitment stations).  This will not only give WG more power, but also increase their credibility as a company dedicated to military history.  Maybe they could even arrange a party that could be used to gather funds to help preserve the Texas.

I'm not a PR expert by any means (I majored in it though in college), but I think this is a good opportunity for WG to gain some more points and draw more people into their game.  Of course, WG needs to benefit from this as well since they are a for-profit company :).

Yeah, that would be a solid idea. :great:

I wish WG could see that Texas needs this.  Heck!  I would love for World of Warships to expand their tendrils...and this is the ideal way to do so in a way that benefits the company.

I just hope Texas can get money before something terrible happens :(.  I live in California and have family in Hawaii, so I'm a bit spoiled when it comes to ship visiting options.

Sorry, but I'm not signing it.

I think we should make her into an artificial reef.

A part of history like this needs to stick around. She's the last dreadnought to have served in both world wars, something that unique and significant must be held onto. I think it's earned to stay afloat. As AnderZENZ said, it's irreplaceable.Heck, it's even a US National Historic Landmark.

Also, I think WG donates money earned from people who buy the ship in-game to Texas so it can be preserved as long as possible.

Honestly I think they need to cofferdam her and concrete her ala Mikasa. The plan to dry dock her permanently is needlessly complicated and expensive

That would be fine, but hopefully (unlike with the Mikasa) they could find a way to do this without filling up the entire lower half of her hull with concrete.

Cofferdams supply a way to temporarily pull the water out to make hull repairs, but you still need to keep the hull watertight.  This is what they are doing to North Carolina, in my home state.

The concrete method is the only permanent solution. But, it is probably many times more expensive.  Texas is much older, (than NC)  they need to consider a permanent concrete base.

I've been following the NC, I plan to visit it again once they pull the water out, I'm only a hour away

Concreting her would be cheaper than the 4 other proposals they put up a few years ago which all involve building a concrete dry dock and then moving her into it. The old girl won't sail again, best to slowly dig around her hull and pour concrete down around her section by section and repair the hull where it's needed
