Remembering Old CV MM

Those were the good old days...  back when Zuiho could run wild, before they were forced to lose a bomber squadron in favor of a fighter squadron.  IJN strike just hasn't been the same since!

Meanwhile AS loadouts load into a match as the sole cv and be like

I don't have to, I remember... but with AA the way it is now it's almost as bad.

People hated CV's with more intensity than now and US BB's were actually useful for AA.

I kinda miss those days. It was fun to see US cruisers who were actually AA spec'd and trying to provide fleet coverage with AA. Back when the Atlanta was really an AA cruiser instead of a flame thrower like now

I miss those days too. It was kind of fun going 1v2 vs CV's and winning.

 

Now I am never going to break my plane kill record :/

1v2 CVs sounds nasty, unless the other 2 CVs are like 2 tiers lower and your CV is OP.  With today's CV balancing i doubt 1v2 is viable at all. 

 

Strike Taiho vs AS Lex and Strike Shokaku? Taiho has no chance. Even strike Midway and Hak have no chance. 
Strike Taiho vs Strike Saipan and Strike Hiryu? Might have a chance due to T7s not having DF.

Sometimes I feel like it is 2v1 cv.  These days, people are either extraordinarily good or bad in cv...

Yeah, it used to be that different tiers had much higher improvements in fighters. 1v2 was possible, but of course still a difficult task.

I remember the one time I divved with Valk in his Cleveland when I was just starting to grind the Zuiho in early OBT (had the top hull, but not the planes because I was an idiot).  I got put in a T6-8, with no T6 ships besides the Cleveland in my division, and a fully-upgraded Shokaku on the enemy team.  There was a couple of enemy NC drivers who actually turned their AA off and offered themselves as targets out of sympathy - can't give enough props to them for taking pity on me when I deserved none - but the guy driving the Shokaku was such a jack[edited] that it didn't matter.  He declared he thought they were such great people and deserved his protection, so he swatted my planes out of the sky - right before TKing one of them with his own bombers.  The next wave took out the other NC driver, who, despite knowing his own CV was gunning for him next and that they could have won without a carrier, did the honorable thing and tried to help his team instead of firing at the flattop.

 

The guy's reasoning?  He can't stand to see nice guys finish anywhere but last.  And just to rub it in my face that they would win regardless of what he did due to the overwhelming material disadvantage on our team (our team had a T5 and a T6 where their team had 2 extra T8s).  I actually ended up losing fewer planes than he did because he got frustrated when I wouldn't commit suicide with my bombers and tried to snipe me - with Zuiho C's AA being somewhat decent, and him being overconfident in his aircraft's survivability when my buddy in the (pre-nerf) Cleveland was nearby, that didn't turn out as he hoped, but that's about the only bright spot.

 

Needless to say, I never divisioned with a different-tier ship than my buddies ever again.

I see your old MM and raise you an old fail-div MM.  At the time of this game, the Hosho normally wouldn't see Ryujo iirc.

AS Lex back in the days when there was no 1000lb bombs and AS carried 3 fighters and 1 bomber...against no carrier.
