Hi guys! As per the poll I did earlier (http://forum.worldofwarships.com/index.php?/topic/109021) The winner of the poll was USN cruisers. So here I have pics of USS New Orleans, two of the Portland-class, two of the Des Moines-class, and USS Alaska. Source of the pics: http://blog.livedoor.jp/irootoko_jr/

Let's get this show on the seas!

YSdJvoo.jpg

USS New Orleans (CA-32). Seen here underway in 1934 in her original configuration. Of note is the range clock on the fore of the bridge, and the overall open bridge design, something that proved to be deadly for her sisters at Guadalcanal.

USS Portland (CA-33), seen here with her decks loaded laundry. At anchor alongside a smaller vessel perhaps undergoing replenishment?

Despite what the picture says, this is still Portland. Seen here on May 31, 1934, underway from the starboard bow.

uA8Hwou.jpgUSS Indianapolis (CA-35), undated mid-war pic of her starboard beam. Pic is after her reconstruction with the new bridge and radar masts.

USS Alaska (CB-1), seen here off Philadelphia on July 30, 1944. She is seen at anchor soon after commissioning.

Alaska on her shakedown cruise in August 1944. A good shot of her port beam at speed.

uKXYUtw.jpg

A painting of Alaska arriving in San Francisco Bay January 1945, by artist Wayne Scarpaci.

FFSGcRq.jpg

A painting of Alaska protecting the burning USS Franklin (CV-13) on March 19, 1945, off the coast of Japan. In the background are (Left to right) USS Guam (CB-2), Franklin, and USS Santa Fe (CL-60). The painting is by Wayne Scarpaci.

SjlfBNZ.jpg

USS Newport News (CA-148), Des Moines-class heavy cruiser. Seen here underway from her port bow. Newport News had the most distinguished career of the three Des Moines sisters. Unfortunately, she was scrapped, but her sister Salem was not. Speaking of which...

qnBGfJ6.jpg

USS Salem (CA-139), seen here from a birds eye view. She now rests as a museum ship in Quincy Massachusetts, with the Newport News museum inside her.

And that is all for today! RN battleships or carriers are next on the list, post your vote in the poll linked above. Fair winds and following seas captains! :honoring:

Because of the book Without Remorse, by Tom Clancy, I will always love USS Newport News.

Great looking pics. I build 1/350 plastic model ships and am always looking for reference pictures.

I received the Takao for my birthday and hope to get the Hood or Scharnhorst for Christmas.

Here is the Indy I did a few years ago. Shes now in a museum.

Hey there!

These are some fantastic pictures that you found of these beautiful ships.

Would you mind if we use them for their respective wiki pages?

Sure, but I can't take credit for them, I got them from here: http://blog.livedoor.jp/irootoko_jr/

I forgot to put the source in this time. The guy has tons of these, I'm just simply sharing them. Hope that helps Zeke!
