I got Konig, and I know why people like it now

Finally finished up Kaiser this weekend and played one game in a stock Konig.

 

Just one game is all it took for me to understand why players like Konig so much.

 

It's not Kaiser.

 

Kaiser is a freakin' dumpster fire of a ship. This "complete garbage" status is tied to its gun layout and its range, though the armor layout and especially the agility don't help. Even though it feels like Konig has the exact same guns, the all-amidships gun layout makes it much more comfortable to actually play. It's still (in my opinion) not as good as Kongo, but it's certainly not as bad as Kaiser. I even hate it less than I hated New York.

 

My point is: I'm pretty sure people like Konig because they just came out of Kaiser and while Konig does feel pretty strong, anything feels like a huge upgrade after Kaiser.

Maybe I'm wierd but I liked both the Kaiser and the Konig, they both seemed strong for the tiers they are in, though Konig does get uptiered a lot.

Possibly, but I never played Kaiser and I LOVE Konig. What a shame WG screwed T5 with the protected MM for T4, because Konig is ton of fun. But I don't play it so much with the constant uptiering. Dont mind facing T7 BBs, but Konig is overmatched by T7 CVs or Saipan with its T9 planes.

I'm still grinding Kaiser and about all I can say about Kaiser is.... it's better than Myogi. I would like both of those ships more if the super firing guns where on the bow. The wing turrets are annoying but I could live with those if the front of my ship had two turrets!

 

Can't wait for Konig, the Konig and Bayern(sp?) are the two I'm most looking forward to.

Think of Kaiser as a tier 4 Kawachi with the portside front and starboardside aft guns removed.

 

It's an uptiered, downgunned Kawachi.

 

It sucks.

I grinded the line up the Freddy (still a few credits shy of buying her) and Kaiser was the worst of the line IMO. Konig was a blast to play and the Bayern was damn good too. Kaiser was just . . . not fun. And for that matter neither was the Gneisenau - I really struggled with her - prolly my fault mainly as I'm really not "good" at WOWS . . .yet.

 

But the Konig - going from the Kaiser to her was like a blast of fresh, sweetly scented air.

I would agree Kaiser was the least fun... But I still enjoyed her. König is a balst when upgraded though. Expect many plane kills, and brawl. Brawl brawl brawl.

I dunno about the Kaiser being bad, it seems to be performing pretty well and same with the Konig. Awkward maybe but still a pretty good ship, comparing it to the Kawachi is kind of ignorant as well.

I liked them both, the amazing reload speed made up for the poor positioning of the turrets. My best killstreak is in a kaiser at 7 ships sunk in one game. Although to be fair that was when the RN cruisers came out and I felt like bullying them.

Aw I liked Myogi. It was trash, but deleting a Langley over those mountains in Solomon Islands was the funniest thing I have ever seen to date.

I didn't get much good use out of it but I'm glad others are finding success in a ship I didn't really enjoy. I though Bayern was a very fun battleship though.

I love the Kaiser.  Not sure what it is about it, but I smash faces in that ship.  It's my highest KDR ship for anything with more than 5 matches played.

Feeling bad and performing bad are 2 different things. A ship can perform well statistically while still feeling bad to play. It's a very subjective opinion that differs from person to person.

 

It feels worse than Kawachi even though it's actually performing better.

I am sure the oversupply of German DDs in the low tiers are making the slow turrets seem worse than they really are. The turret rotation and positioning are bad though, but I compared to my 62s Yamato rotation, it's workable under normal conditions if you plan ahead.

Nah, the new destroyers aren't to blame. I've hated Kaiser since I got it and it took me months to slog through it (because I just avoided playing it). I very strongly dislike the gun layout and apparently I'm not the only one.

Getting in close and wrecking face is the specialty of that line from here on out. Konig has the accuracy to hit at long range, but unless you're going after a cruiser, HE is often a better choice than AP. With only 12" guns, the AP works well at ranges where you can be more precise.

Konig is tough but the biggest draw to her for me was the dispersion.  She can land a lot of hits on someone.  In the old MM when I was grinding down the German BB line, Konig was quite strong.  But as a Tier V BB in the current MM, she faces the likes of Tier VII BBs regularly to include the fast Scharnhorst and Gneisenau.  They are armored well and run over slow BBs.  I've run over just as much helpless Konigs as I have New Yorks, New Mexicos, etc.  Nagato & Colorado have 16" guns.  That's the kind of stuff the Tier V BBs see all the time.

I never thought Konig was a bad ship. I've fought enough of them in my Kongo to know better than that.
