Help me out here. Did I do something wrong in this match?

So I rarely get heavily criticized in a match. I don't sit back and snipe, I support caps, I push when I should and withdraw when it's a good idea. I anticipate torps well and I'm pretty accurate with my guns. As a primarily BB player, I consider myself pretty good. So then this match, I'm in Yamato on a map where all the caps are small and cramped with rocks (I forget the name). I'm heading to a position to support East and Middle with shelling that'll put me just South East of the Eastern cap. I dodge a torp spread from mid which puts me broadside to a Montana and heading toward an island, so rather than beach and give him a broadside shot, I keep the turn going, put my stern to the Montana and loop around the island to go back to bow-on toward him.

Of course this takes me around the edge of the cap, which I had no intention of entering anyway because I have multiple cruisers and DDs with me that are better suited for the confined space, and I can't cover the entire cap if I'm inside it. People in chat start complaining about a Yamato that's running away and won't get in the cap even with cruiser escort and I'm like… wait, they mean me? So then /no one leaves my side/ to go to the cap. They are all right up my rear, even getting in the way of my guns, following me around the island, and hampering my ability to dodge shells. The whole time complaining that I'm not in the cap.

Then one of the cruisers gets blown up and starts ranting that I was using him as a shield. Dude was between me and the enemy. What the heck am I supposed to do about that? And when I say between, he's so close to me I was practically wearing him. I had to cut speed multiple times to not run into him. I've never had a friendly follow me so tightly before, and he was blaming me that shells aimed our way hit him.

I just don't know. What is it with T10 that makes people do this? If someone had said, hey, Yamato, go bowl into that cap and we'll keep you safe. Okay, cool, let's go. But there was no plan. Nothing communicated. I can't read their minds, and when it's clear I'm not doing what they expected me to, why did they keep glued to me and complain the whole time like they had no other option?

Am I missing something here?

"Am I missing something here?"

Unfortunately yes you are missing the fact that you are dealing with human beings who are such a wide variety as to be able to find all types of good and bad and in between and various ; mixed up combinations .

:hiding:  Holiday noobs galore.

Also, people tend to be full of it (turkey and otherwise) during the holidays.

They were scared because if you were in Tier 10 battle, i guess this CAs who followed you are low tiers.

I would do the same either if Im on a CA that is low tiered but i wont rant if i die because i know i was low tiered

And also as everyone said.

Overall, you didnt do anything wrong in that match...

Did you forget the Yamato is so OP, that all you had to do is park in the cap, and no red could touch you?

Nope, didn't do anything wrong. Had you gone in there you might have just gotten burned down or stuck. There is a time and place for a BB to push into a cap. That didn't sound like it was that time to me.

That's just the unfortunate aspect of the game you have to deal with. Quite often the green, blue and purple players will berate you even if you sink 14 ships but then finally get sunk because you absorbed 99% of the entire team's damage.

The situation you describe sound similar to something I experienced where one of the caps has a lot of islands ringing it on one side while the other side is wide open spaces. For some reason people say to play that cap and support it from the island side even though the ring of islands on that side blocks 90% of your supporting shots. And then if you have to maneuver around in such a way as to either endanger yourself unnecessarily or allow yourself to be a non-factor for 2-3 minutes as you have to get turned around, your guns turned around and get back to one of the gaps through which you can then start supporting the cap all over again. And invariably the cappers all get slaughtered and then blame it on you for not supporting them every second of the attempt.

It's as if the good players are intentionally telling players to play badly or use bad tactics purposely so that they hurt their own stats and keep the green and higher players stats higher. Everyone knows the game is a law of average, you can be purple, lose 200 battles in a row and still be purple.

Well thanks for the feedback, guys. Glad it wasn't me. Always try to do the best I can for the team so when I get that much flack from multiple people I start to wonder, you know?

That Yamato is a weak sided one trick pony, teamed with bad detection and supreme focus fire.  It's a great standard BB, but is way overhyped.  Yamato is a mental game with many pitfalls, if you want support - then div.  Otherwise, do what 98% of the rest of the player base does, look out for #1.

I'm stupid in Random, always dying because I try to help team.  Your description sounds like smart support, nothing like seeing a Yamato alone in the open getting sent back to port - that's no help.

A BBs job is to tank hits and shoot the big guns. It is hard to do that from the east aide of the east cap.

While they were raging at you, what were you doing? Did you have any good targets to shoot, did you tank any damage. If you were doing both of those things, they are wrong. If you were doing nothing but sitting there, they may be right. They need you to tank hits to advance.

Personally, I am of the belief that a BB shouldnt try to grab a cap while there are enemy DDs anywhere nearby or unaccounted for.  Even if the cap does not have islands, trying to cap restricts your movement and makes you a great target for those DDs.  I say this as primarily a DD player.  DDs (mostly) and CAs should be taking/clearing the caps.  Sure, mid to late game, you might have to push into a cap, even if there are enemy DDs, simply because your team needs a cap ... but for the most part, especially early game, supporting DD/CA cap is the more useful action for BBs (IMO).  Or, if your own DDs/CAs have pushed the enemy DDs/CAs back from the cap you can advance and assist capping.  So, yeah, it doesn't sound like you did anything particularly wrong.  I think that some of your team members might simply have assumed you were going for a cap (because it sounds like you got pretty close to it) and then when you turned away they thought you chickened out and were abandoning them.  <shrug> Hard to say exactly what was going through their minds.  Perhaps they were confused that a Yamato was actually moving forward, instead of sitting at range bow-on and sniping.

I'm a pretty good player and been playing for over a year but still learning from those with more experience than myself, and will take constructive criticism from those better than me in the do's and don'ts of the game, because as they say you never stop learning. But getting this much flack from some of these holiday potato heads who blame everyone else for their mistakes is getting to the point of ridiculous. If you messed up! then own up to it, learn from it, and carry on. But stop all this [edited]because its taking the fun out of the game for some of us as myself. For those players out their who have given me their constructive criticism and patience over the past year thank you. I've enjoyed in playing with you and look to playing in 2017 with everyone.
