Pretty excited myself. Some of the destroyers seem pretty sweet with their flat firing guns and AP. Hydro will make it interesting. I've played USN destroyers the most but I struggle with their gun arcs.

It's exciting to see new dds that can help counter USN dds but as a mostly IJN dd player, I play Russian too, I'm not excited about dds with decent guns and torps as well as hydro. I feel like IJN dds are going to go extinct

For me it'll be dependent on the concealment vs torp range.  Starting out I was a stealth torp player and sold all my gunboats.  Once I started understanding the game more and mechanics I bought back the gunboats where I do...  Well not bad, but fair to middling I'd say.  with the Germans it seems to me it'll be a somewhat hybrid gunboat/cruiser almost so it should be interesting developing new playstyle and tactics to fit the ship.

Im not really a DD player. I have the Campbeltown and Minikaze but I like the looks of the German DDs so I will probably give them a go up to t6 or 7. I hate high tier games so I doubt I will go all the way to the  Z56.

Hydro in it's own spot starting at T6? That's not gonna be OP at all.

Ships has a power creep problem and I'm worried this just the next installment. German BBs were problematic enough.

I'm excited to get my hands on em and see how they do!

That said, they look like they'll do to the US DD line what they did to the US BB line- replace them in their "flavor", but do it better...   These look to be Jack of all trades DD's- like USN are- but they get hydro, and improved gun performance, forward firing torps at low tiers, and a choice to get big guns at a couple of tiers.  They also seem to be being marketed as knife fighters with good AA- which was the USN's gig.

I wonder what they had to trade away to get all these plusses.   IJN traded gun performance for stealth and torps;  VMF traded stealth and long range torpedoes to get the best guns.   USN traded specialist level performance for flexability, and they aren't as stealthy as the IJN DD's either.   So what are Germany's trade-offs?

Not totally sure, but I think they are a bit clumsy and not that agile. Slow turn rates and big etc.   That's just the rumours I've seen.  Remains to be seen I guess.

And I believe their smoke isn't going to be as long lasting and their maneuverability will be behind USN for sure.

Based on what's on the Wiki, it looks like every single German DD can stealth torp... but some of them only just barely, with a window of around half a km unless you have captain skills or modules to bring down the detection range. The tier X looks to have almost a 2km stealth torp window before taking into account captain skills and other bonuses, while the tier II has what looks like a o.6 km window.

Larger turning radius, slower rudder shift most likely, possibly lesser concealment values, wider hulls so more damage from AP shells from BB/cruisers.  Add to this that they're going to have German HE which, going by the cruiser line, is not going to be fun.

They seem to be the counter for USNs in the early capture scenario. I'm expecting that they'll find quick deaths at the hands of CAs with radar.

Slower speed, less effective HE shells, wider bodies for wider turning arcs, so stealth torpedoes, but not stealth firing (until later tiers with appropriate captain's skills and concealment module).

Looks to be interesting.

The HE damage being lower is a concern. I actually suspect they'll be more effective light cruiser killers than knife fighters.

The 150mm guns make me wonder too.

What's the point of starting a new line of ships that are weaker than what we already have?

Yeah, that makes me want to jump all over it just to see how much pain I can endure. :amazed:

Seriously, I saw the new DD's a few times in combat. They were not impressive at all from what I could see. None were major factors in any of the battles. Mediocre at best.

It may take a few weeks to learn to play them. It happened when the Royal Navy cruisers were introduced. I think the accusing them of sucking has died down quite a bit.

A player who understands how to exploit this properly will have a very big advantage head to head against any other Dd.

At least with radar/hydro on the larger ships they have to take a risk to get within effective range.

With a dd with decent guns to back itself up, good luck pushing that out of the cap

Hydro on bismarck is totally OP.    I use it all the time against DD.    I bought back dresden for 500 xp today (1 match got me 2500 with camo)   and got 1 captain upto 6 point ready to go.  quick grind to 4 probably then slow down and enjoy the ride so to speak.   not planning on free xping much on this line even though I have 120k saved up i shouldn't have spent 50k skipping emerald  XD.   oh well.     with 100% camo, it goes quick to lvl up anyway.

I forgot to take screenshots from my first German DD battle today.

It was all V-25s with a G-101 and 2 CAs on each team.

No one bothered to upgrade anything! Hahaha!

It was glorious! I actually got to use the front launchers and to take out one of the CAs!

Not terribly good with them yet but I'm only at tier 3 - I'm not terribly good at DD's in general so this doesn't surprise me. Either way, they are fun and I'm loving the forward torpedoes.

I see the Z-52 doesn't have a massive stealth fire range anymore. It'll be a few km while in a stealth build.

They neutered them prior to release. Too bad. Could have been great fun. They have plans to remove the invisifire ability of all dds at range it seems... sometime early 2017? So DDs get kicked again.

I remember this game used to be called "World of Battleships".

That may be a substantial nerf but they may still be viable. Keep in mind British CL's were under preforming until people learned how to play them.

I will say I'm dreading taking a German destroyer on Ocean map.

Current impressions from playing the Maass and Z-23 is that they are... very mediocre. The guns lack kick, the torpedoes are stealthy and speedy but also lack kick (think Sims torps, but not quite as bad). They have bad concealment, which combined with the horrendous detection bloom means that you are detected whenever you try to deal damage, unless you do it from your smoke, which only lasts for just north of a minute. The hydro would be good if it had standard German range, but as is it's too short ranged to be truly effective; you're sure to get detected on your way to whatever smoke cloud you want to hydro and be forced to smoke yourself and then be screwed when it runs out before you can get the ship turned around. They have good HP, but the wide hull and sluggish maneuverability combine with the short smoke and bad concealment to ensure that you take massive amounts of damage whenever you decide to try using your guns. Not impressed.
