DD line is confusing

So.. I'm rather confused at the DD line.. 

 

Akatsuki at tier 7 has the best torp according to the stats, even ranking better than the tier x.  When you go from the aka to t8, you're almost losing 1/3 of your torp power in stats.  How is this supposed to be "advancing" in the tree?

u know .... the stats ... open those tabs and read the numbers and specs of every part .... dont just look the 34 torps 32 torps 24torps ....

Those numbers don't mean much, check the actual stats like torpedo speed, damage, etc.

Then why have them?  Besides.. you're still losing 1 set of torp launchers by going from akatsuki to the kagero.

Instead of 9 torpedo tubes, you get 8 torpedo tubes. You lose one torpedo tube, but you gain access to better torpedoes overall including (IIRC) the fantastic F3 torps.

Kagero lost the F3s when she was dropped to tier 8, have to wait to the Yugumo to get them now.

 

The Yugumo, of course, basically being a Kagero. 

 

That said, it's always been that you lose a torpedo going from Fubuki to Kagero. This is nothing new.

Instead of the 3x3 loadout you get 2x4. Has it's advantages and disadvantages, but mainly the latter.

It's because WG/Lesta was lazy and forgot to fix a few things on Kagero when they moved her down to T8.

 

Namely gun range, but also things like torpedo reload speed.

Since your torps reload slower, and you have fewer, your "torp stat" goes down.

 

The Type 93 torps are a huge improvement over the Type 90 torps, in terms of getting hits, because they are faster

It really isn't, the devs direly messed up with the IJN DD line. They were trying to make them a bit more competitive by making the guns usable post tier 5, and dialing back the reliance on torpedoes for all of their damage. What they made however are a bunch of either OP gunboat/torpedo-spamming DDs (Akizuki/Shiratsuyu) or pointless hybrids that aren't good at either (Kagero-Shimakaze).

I'd rather have more launchers myself.. More options to hold 1 launcher in reserve and less damage dealing lost when it gets knocked out.

 

Here I thought the messup with the DD line was going to end when they took away the 10k torps earlier.  Guess they're not done trying to drive people to go and buy their premium ships.

Uh...tier 6 still has 10km torps. They didn't take them away from anyone.

 

Unless you're talking about way back in CBT when they took them off the Minekaze because it was even more OP back then.
