How WG decide torp reload time ?

This question randomly come up in my mind.

cos historically, I think only IJN DD carry torp reload. And even so, it would still take 30 mins to reload the torp.

so quiestion is how WG "make up" the reload time of torp ?

it depends on the number of torpedo tubes, the torpedo weight, and the torpedo length.

Its purely game balance. As for reloads taking 30 minutes, not always, there were systems on some of the DDs and heavy cruisers that allowed the tubes to be reloaded in under 5 minutes.

 

EDIT: From Japanese Cruisers Of The Pacific War about the Takao class torpedo armament, "Normally after the firing of a broadside a second firing could occur within 3 min, while a third broadside with the torpedoes stored abreast the funnels on the same side as the tubes could occur within 8 min."

Now here comes my other question. should ships historically carry torp reload and able to rearm torp quickly given torp reload booster like the one on Akizuki in game ? (maybe not 5 sec, but 30 sec)

As a mix of gameplay and history I think the torpedo reload booster is a good consumable for the IJN DDs as the IJN stressed torpedo armament and had sophisticated systems for the reload of torpedo tubes during battle scenarios. Exact times can be fudged for gameplay balance.

What do you mean? Historically something either happened or not - there's no "should" in there.

By the way, 30 min reload would have included a smoke break or two - the norm was 10.

Two main factors are number of tubes and size of torps. Total torps don't matter, that's why the Umikaze can reload 4 450 mm torps in sets of 2 at 25 seconds, the Kamikaze can load 6 533mm torps in sets of two 47 seconds but the Mutsuki takes 73 seconds to load it's 6 610mm torps

For battles that take 20 minutes at most compared with real life scenarios stretching for hours or days, some leeway has to be given for gameplay in this arcade game. This isnt a simulator.
