Hi Guys,

I'm a relatively new player and am having trouble choosing a proper line/nation to advance in.  I've been playing in mostly co-op matches to try and get the feel of each line and nation.  What I'm looking for is something to cut my teeth on, a decent mid range ship line that is forgiving and allow me to contribute to the team before going to the bottom.  Initially I thought UK cruisers but I see they need skill that I don't have yet.  I'm open to Destroyer and Battleship lines as well but I do tend to stray into the 6-10 km range frequently and find that's my fun zone.  I expect to take hits of course but I want to last 2 or 3 salvos before I litter the sea floor.  Basically a ship that will let me last long enough to learn important gameplay skills.  Any suggestions would be appreciated

For Destroyers, if you like short / mid range balance, USN DD's are your bet.

For BB's - if you like close - mid range action. KM BB's are your bet.

But one thing, do you want comfort or do you want to learn, because US BB's make you learn much quicker IMO.

Sure the US BB line is not the most favored line in the game, but it instills very good habits into your BB play that translates very well across all other BB lines.

USN Cruisers are pretty good at lower tiers for newer players, but once you hit tier VII, it becomes very skill dependent.

German BBs are very forgiving, as they're niegh impossible to citadel them. They're great Brawlers, so they sound great for your engagement range...

Many of the Russian cruisers below tier IV are quite solid ships, some would even say borderline OP.

I don't know if DDs would be your thing, as they pretty much rely on not getting hit...

I'm at the same stage and am enjoying the US and KN BB lines the most at this point (though I'm also working on the IJN CL's and BB's, too).  If you go KN, you can make a small investment in a Konig Albert that is forgiving at its tier as a premium and accelerate your captain training.

As said, German BBs, is almost impossible to do wrong with them if you go 6-10 Km or closer. US BBs are great at around 10 km or a bit more, just don't get near German BBs or anything with torps.

US DDs are great for 6 km or closer, VMF DDs are great for longer ranges.

Avoid CLs, you'll get deleted at that range.

You seem to have missed the part of the OP about 6-10km.

Try playing a wide variety of different ships, because even if you don't like them it will teach you how to counter them when you play a ship you do like. Also deffinitly sounding like you are going to want to play German BBs.

Also to avoid being instant deleted Never NEVER sail broadside to anyone, you will be punished heavily for it. Always pay attention to whats going on around you when you are in BBs to avoid torps. If you are looking for tips just ask the forums or watch videos, you can learn a lot.

USN Cruiser is typically a good opener until tier 7. Cleve is fantastic, great support ship and good he. Don't forget the AP though unwary cruisers showing broadsides are great.

KM Battleships are fantastic to begin with just remember about torps and you should be good for the most part.

USN DDs are good for versatility and have multiple ships in the upper tiers that let you pick your battles and how you go about them (Torp boat or gun boat). At low tiers clemson and nicholas are fun ambushers.

This, play them all at least enough to get a good feel of them, typically to tier 5 or 6.

Honestly, if you want to learn, if you can learn to play the Furutaka well than you will do well in most CA's from that point onward. So IJN is a good bet, cause it makes the shift from CL to CA at tier 5 so you can learn and enjoy the rest of line.
