Fletcher Issues

Had a great time in the Benson.  For the last 20 matches had an average of around 70k damage and finished it with a WTR of 1563.  Got enough xp to research the Fletcher in 89 games.  But oh man, the Fletcher.  

Whether it is the combination of the captain retraining and being stock, but I just cannot get it to work.  Granted it has only been 6 games, but they have not all been tier 10 matches.  I play it like I played the Benson, but it just doesn't work out.  I mean I very successful on the Benson and the Fletcher is essentially the Benson but better in almost every regard, but click.

 

The Benson stock grind was pretty much a breeze for me but I cannot say the same for this ship.

 

Is there something different about the Fletcher than the Benson?  I mean having a few extra km of range and a few meters of extra detection is nice, but it is not a radical change.  Losing the fire rate from BFT doesn't hurt DPM that much.  Not having to burn the repair on a broken engine is nice, but I can not see how these create such radically different gameplay.

 

I find it ironic how the Benson has my highest WTR and the Fletcher has my lowest for US ships at least.  In all seriousness, help me.

Fletcher is like a Benson but better in every way once you get the modules researched. However, since you are using stock equipment (free EXP should be spent only to research modules so you never have to play a stock ship) and your captain is in retraining, it will perform worse than the Benson and have worse matchmaking as well. Finally, a sample size of 6 games isn't statistically significant. Don't let your first few Fletcher games make you give up on the ship, she's excellent when fully kitted out.

For some reason it feels like you get punished so much harder for mistakes than you do in the benson. It could Just be my luck getting into pretty much all tier 10 games. After a few days of that going back to the Benson in mostly tier 7 and 8 matches feels a lot less exciting.

I have a whopping two games in the Fletcher so far and your Benson numbers were much better than mine, so I can't really offer advice other than to second RHINO: unless you're planning to get yourself a Missouri just go ahead and spend some free xp on the modules.  I only do this on tier IX ships (and having just unlocked the Tashkent it's been very difficult to stick with that rule), but in the case of the Fletcher I couldn't be happier after my minuscule sample size (infinite K/Ds are nice).

If you are retraining your captain using credits then you may want to consider running that captain in a lower tier premium for a number of games (assuming you have a US premium). Not having any captain skills at tier 9 and running a stock ship is really going to handicap you. You could get around some of that by using a premium ship to do the retraining.

When she is fully buffed and has a 15-19 point skipper she is lethal.

Same thing happened to me in the first few games in the Fletcher. It's something about having a stock ship with a low level captain or a captain in retraining. Trust me, it gets better.

 

I was shocked how bad I played the Fletcher when I first unlocked it, now its my best ship. Give it some time and grind out those upgrades.

How to Fletcher:

 

This ship is a lot of fun to play and one of my favorites.  Also the first ship I purchased a premium camouflage for.  It's been a while since I played her seriously because everything seems to be T8 or T10 these days and the IJN DD line has taken my interest for the added challenge, but Fletcher will always remain in my port.  Always!
