Emden vs. Dresden

Hello mates,

 

Was just perusing my port a bit and was looking at the low tier German cruisers, specifically the Emden and Dresden.  You cannot upgrade their main battery, which remains the same 105mm L/45 MPL C/06 guns for each (as well as Kolberg).

 

You would think the performance would be the exact same, considering it is the same gun classification and reload time (4.0s).  However, Emden's gun performance lists 1200/HE and 1700/AP, while Dresden shows 1200/HE and 2300/AP.

 

Does this mean they use the same HE shells but different AP shells for the same class of ship?  And if so, why?

Emden was originally the New Year's Gift ship/free port slot from last year, and she was historically sunk in 1914 and never received the better shells that Dresden did. Also because balance, since Emden is basically an elited Dresden with 2 less guns and gift vehicles are generally in the mediocre to average category.

Emden can still kick but though if you push her hard enough. I enjoy taking mine out into co-op every now and again for a little fun, same with Mikasa.

Like stated in the above posts and yeah she can still hold her own, even in randoms you just have to try a little harder and do your part.

With the AFT, BFT, and ExM selected for your German BB captain... just plug into an Emden .. and ..

Using the WASD hack, do some serious Umikaze clubbing.  And also, stand off at range and burn down Mikasa's.to the waterline.

My worst win rate ship is the emden...total garbage.

Apart from having the 'Parade' white paint job and the deception extra funnel at the same time...

But hey..  artistic license and it looks nice.

I currently have the Dresden with 500XP on it to buy the first DD when they get switched on.  I'll likely be up to tier 4 in 3-6 missions anyway (RNG dependent).

The Dresden with the extra 2 guns and higher AP she has a good edge over the Emden.

 

For me the Dresden significantly out performs in every category except in Main Battery Hit Ratio there the Emden is 2% better.

 

I used both these ships to build up a pool of captains and have hundreds of battles in them and even though the Emden's guns are more accurate I haven't been able to get it to make up for the higher DPS that two extra guns and better AP offer.

I like Emden a lot.  I run BFT, AFT, and DE on her along with the increased fire chance flags and go to town starting fires.

 

With a little bit of skill and luck, I've eclipsed 75k damage with her before.
