Alright, I'm some of you guys can help (Or not if I've killed you in game at some point) but just a few questions.

1. Rumor is the Nikolai will not be sold again? I was sitting at several hundred feet below the water when it was sold I guess in 2015, and now there's no way to get her ever? I'm a huge naval fan, I loved [edited]: Midway and Pacific so I like collecting ships and such.

2. What affects the amount of 'Special One-Off' offers you get. I've seen two, one being Arizona which I snapped up immediately and the other being Lo Yang, which after deliberation I also bought.

3. Submarines, will they ever be a thing? I have to ask for uh, personal reasons that could be related to the picture. Haha

1. They have been pretty clear, the Nikolai will not be sold again. But it is a ship that can be won in a super container.

2. The "special offers" don't seem to have triggers. I have gotten maybe three, all when I first started and then never again. Some people say that having doubloons help trigger them, but plenty other report getting offers when they had nothing.

3. No, Never (according to WG). Personally I don't think they would fit into the game at all.

1. No sale ever again but they do give it out to charity volunteers from time to time and from SCs

2. Nothing that I know of

  1. I am loathe to say "never" in regards to any product being sold again.  However, it's very unlikely that in the tenure of any players here that we'll see the Imperator Nikolai I will ever go back up for sale.  If you're banking on seeing her crop up in the online store in the next twelve months, then you will be disappointed.  While we're at it, this goes for the Gremyashchy too.  They are unhappy with the balance of the ship, so the only way I could ever perceive it coming back up for purchase was if they made a clone with altered stats, similar to how the Anshan is similar too, but a more fairly balanced Gremmy.

  2. I couldn't tell you.  I've never had a personal offer ever.  Not a one.  I couldn't even tell you what they look like.

  3. Like the Imperator Nikolai I question, I am reluctant to say "never" in regards to submarines.  I will instead say "very unlikely".  In order to make submarines work in a fleet-action game, they would need to deviate extremely far from how submarines operated IRL.  On the surface, there's nothing wrong with that.  They had to do that for the other classes so that destroyers could be competitive.  But speaking of destroyers, have you seriously looked at how they play in World of Warships?  If you're looking for a sneaky, small, torpedo launching ship that's very fragile but has the ability to disappear at will (unless the enemy counters with electronic equipment), they're already in the game as destroyers.  This really doesn't leave a lot of room for submarine game play as most people envision it.

While I have no idea what triggers the special offers, I've heard rumors that you get them after an exceptionally good match, after being complimented numerous times, or it's just frakking RNG

Ah. Yeah I got the Gremy when I bought into CB so that's why I don't see as many of them.  But yeah, I was just thinking of if you had a ship that could dive maybe 2 minutes at a time, but with heavier torpedoes than DDs. I mean they had a pretty heavy history in WW1 and 2 for every nation. Also, a question for you since A. You murdered me the other day in a Z-23 and B. Your one of them, how does one go about applying to be a tester for yet-to-be-implemented ships?

It's not a bad thought about submarines, but ask yourself this:

What is diving meant to DO, game play wise?

Are you imagining it as making you undetectable?  Cause that element of game play is provided with destroyer smoke screens.  Press a button and you disappear for a period of almost 2 minutes to everything short of auto-detect proximity (2km base) or the sonar and radar consumables.  If you imagine submerging adding something different than what I've described, I'm all ears.

In terms of torpedo armaments, submarines usually used the same torpedoes as surface ships.  For example, most German cruisers in game use the G7aT1 torpedo that was used by U-Boats for much of the war.

-Edit-

As for getting to test play ships, there are two ways.

  1. Join the Supertesters.  These are volunteers who spend a lot of time helping Wargaming playtest new content before it comes out, looking for bugs and problems but also evaluating new ships.  They aren't looking for people currently, but keep your eye on the forums for announcements for when they're looking to recruit new members.
  2. Community Contributors like myself also get the opportunity to playtest new ships on occasion, but only after the Supertesters have evaluated them.  To become a Community Contributor, make content (videos, guides, a blog, website, etc) that helps players enjoy the game.  Explain game mechanics.  Review ships.  Talk about patch changes.  Archive performance of various vessels and discuss tactics.  Wargaming pays attention to players that go out of their way to make the game more accessible to others.

Well, I agree with the whole making us undetectable. But imagine a spotting bonus. Granted it was much older at the time but it's really easy to get within 3000 yds of a MODERN warship and have them have no idea you were there. Perhaps dive at a point, throw a scope up with a .5km detection radius, give the submarine it's best weapon: Passive Sonar (Maybe an autodetect of every ship on the map for a period of time, or greatly extended range). Although passive sonar wasn't as advanced at the time as it is now but it was still viable. That's not mentioning all the other oolies they could toss in (British M Class, Surcouf, Sentoku). Submarines are massively configurable and you could have several tech trees easily implemented. There's been a ton of variety so design would be easy.

Supertesters, sounds legit. I'll have to look into that.

It's not being within 3000 yds of a warship in WW2 that was the problem, it's getting there.

I'm going to assume you're on a nuke boat. They go faster submerged than on the surface.

A late WW2 sub is about as fast as the Seawolf on the surface, but only about 12knts underwater. IOW, in a naval surface action, if the sub isn't already in position to intercept, it never will be, because it can't catch a warship doing combat speeds, and forget about hitting a maneuvering target without guided torps.

Convoys or transitting warships are different. They're moving slower, for fuel efficiency, and not expecting trouble to the same degree.
