As a dd driver, how many shots have you missed due to non dd drivers

I hate it when I set up an ambush on a nice juicy target  and another ship suddenly sails into my line of fire. My  target  was using an Island to shield itself. My plan was to ambush him on the other side of the island. I set up a nice ambush and  suddenly  a bb  came from behind, squeezed between my dd and the Island  and sailed   between me and the  target just as I am  ready to fire. Usually I'm able lift my finger off of the trigger before I let go of my fish.  I know us dd drivers catch allot of flack because we like to thread the needle, but it is  not always our fault when someone gets team killed by accident. I know this guy noticed me going through the trouble to set up a kill because I was screening for him and two cruisers just a minute earlier.

Some people get greedy. If I see a guy like that I just give him room and use him as a meat shield if he really wants to get greedy.

Enough that I stopped trying to play ambush tactics / long-range torping (IJN DDs) and go full gunbote mode

It only bothers me when in end game and a low health BB on your team gets in between you and a full health BB on the other team.

I'd quite happily wait until my BB dies but in end game every ship counts. Plus if they had a touch of situational awareness they would know to leave clear lanes and wait for the opposition BB to spot the torps, turn, and give them a perfect broadside.

I feel you......This happens to me rather often.

I play rather careful and my DD usually live till the end.

The late game time is pretty easy to torp BB as they usually push aggrasively and run into torps.

Problem is friendly BB go in quicker than I do and I can't even catch up with them and lay smoke screen for them (as recently I play a lot Shiratsuyu and Kagero, which both are slow by DD standard)

and of cos, they will be in your fish lane and you can't do anything other than open fire and reveal your position or sit back and watch the friendly BB die.

If I had a premium ship for every time this happened, I would have owned every premium ship in the game long ago.

DD drivers are often ignored by others who are in a hurry to get a kill; I have had cruiser drivers hover between me and an enemy ship so I couldn't finish it off with torps and he could get the kill.

(but you also know that the minute you fire off torps the incompetent fish-lipped weeaboo will sail right into them and turn you pink)

the only joy you can get from this is knowing that someday the happy little wing-nut will be on the OTHER team, and when he is, he sure ain't gonna be any smarter than he is right now!!

(failure to employ the WASD hack; elimination penalty)

have pity on those who will never know the joy of DD.

I was recently saved from a team kill by the minimum TT range. I lined up a target and fired my first salvo. Just as I launched the second, an Omaha cruised down my engaged side on an opposite heading and ate all 3 TT. Fortunately none detonated. Both of us needed better situational awareness but the other ships on the team need to be aware that they are making their DDs useless by getting between them and the enemy.

With torps being high alpha damage, you shouldn't being trying to finish ships off with them. BB main battery and DD torps are for high health targets is the way I see it. Let the cruisers go and get the scraps and the kill.

But that isn't what this thread is about lol I do hate when you get lined up nice and then there is a cruiser or friendly DD coming your way. Just the way it goes, and I try to make sure I am aware of my team mates before I fire. I have been hit by friendly torps when it isn't my fault and it sucks lol so I make sure I am aware

Happens to me all the time. So frustrating. No idea why BBs and CA's want to push in front of the DDs when we are scouting for them and setting up torp runs.

Similarly, the other night I was ambushing a North Carolina on Shatter, as I am pushing through the B point and turning to release torps, a Prinz Eugen sails right into my path. I ask him to slow down so i can release torps and he replies, No I am going to release my torps. I let him go and of course he died. Suited him.

Happens all the time.  The thing that bugs me more though is the guy who parks behind you and then blocks you from dodging enemy torps...usually after putting a round or two into you while he tries to shoot through you at the target.

That can be annoying, but I've learned to scan for friendly ships in the area before I try to set up a torpedo run.  I also try to keep well away from/ahead of the rest of my team when I'm playing a torpedo-centric destroyer.

What really bugs me, though, are the teammates who sail into my smoke and either park 10 feet off my side between me and the enemies or pin me up against an island.  I'm fine with sharing my smoke, but I also go to great pains to spread the screen out as big as possible...even if you're in a battleship, there's room for you without interfering with me. :P

worse thing is that smoke is always a torpedo magnet. those BB seems to always find a way to block your escape route and make you and him take a bunch of torpedos.

One of the first things I learned about smoke-firing: if any enemy ship anywhere near you has torpedoes, make sure you're angled head- or tail on to their location. Or just use the hulk of a dead teammate as a shield. :teethhappy:

Someone explain the need of a DD to follow so close to a CA or BB as to ram them if they stop?  Not just a straight follow but follow every turn they make.  I play a ton of IJN DD and don't do this but it seems like if I play a BB I get this follow on.. it drives me nuts.. BB cannot steer as it is..

OP: More times than I care to remember.  I'll launch the fish, watch them swim off to their explosive demise...and then watch as artillery or planes fly overhead to wake the target up and rob...*sniff*...rob the torpedoes of their sole reason for existence.   Won't someone please think of the torpedoes...

Couple of days ago I was in a DD trying to sneak up on the red teams carrier and cap their base, by going to the south, (the whole enemy team went north.) But a ARP CL decide to follow in my wake, which dragged a BB south and the carrier planes south to deal with him. I was invisible until 9km from the carrier when one of the returning TB spotted me ( they, the BB and CV Planes sunk the Arp CL). So now the CV is sending bombers and TB's after me getting a few bomb hits, the BB turns around and starts shooting. The CV gets into my 7km torp range so I let a volley off and of course he's alerted now ( he was sitting still) and starts WASD-ing my torps. finally get to a close range where I cant' miss and put 8 torps in him, he sinks, I see a CL AFK in the Cap and start swinging around to torp him, get few rounds in him, 2 second left on torp reload then Blam the BB that would of been way north nailed me.

I could of stealth torped the CV, then nail the AFK CL, Cap their base and probably stealth torp anybody trying to stop me stop me. But that ARP CL who decided to follow me messed up my sneak attack, oh and we lost the game.

And the inverse:  DD's that swoop in out of nowhere,  and drive right in front of your guns to drop torps on that ship you are fighting.   Normally results in the red ship getting a free shot on me, as I have to stop firing to avoid Mr Hyper Competetive there.   If I don't see him in time...

It ain't just Cruisers and BB's schlong blocking you DD's.  You guys regularly do it to us, too.  Heck, I had another DD do it to me the other day while driving IZZY.   I was SORELY tempted...   Guy's just lucky I saw him coming in time- my finger was already depressing the lmb.

I am aware that if you think I am NOT going to finish off any cripple with torps, and let some bone-fondling, rump-stumping cruiser captain steal my kill, you have lost ALL CONTACT WITH REALITY. Let the useless weeaboo cruiser captain get his own scraps and his own kills, it's not like they do anything but hide behind islands and ask for a free smoke screen.

And by the way, EVERYBODY has been hit by friendly torps, so you can jump down off the cross now.
