Horrible with Belfast, but Good with Fiji?

I'm a big fan of the RN Cruisers, so when the Belfast became available I snatched it up.  I haven't played the Belfast too much lately because, well... I suck with it.  I assume my problem is  that I use the same play style with the Belfast as I do with the Fiji (close support of DDs at the cap).  The lack of damage control on the Belfast seems to be my undoing, i.e., you can heal the Fiji, but you can't heal the Belfast.  Any suggestions?

30 games is a very small sample size.

This, but also Fiji is a much better ship imo. Belfast is not nearly as powerful as people thought early on and the Fiji is excellent.

I'm just guessing here, but I'm thinking you are probably being to aggressive with your Belfast.

Her AP isn't as good as Fiji's and while HE is more reliable damage, it tends to do it in smaller chunks over time as opposed to the massive immediate damage AP is capable of. She doesn't have torpedo's to keep the enemy honest up close, and as you noted, without the ability to heal yourself, mistakes in the Belfast are more punishing.

Fiji is very nimble.

So you have the option to dodge incoming fire.

If Belfast is anything like her sister, Edinburgh, then she'd be sluggish - very slow to respond to helm.

Which means there isn't much you can do against mid range ships with bigger guns than you.

I own the Belfast but am about 40k exp from the Fiji currently. The Fiji is turns faster, can heal and can conceal itself a little bit better and torpedoes. This makes the Fiji a better ship outside of smoke. Inside smoke, they have the same dpm but the Fiji has better AP, it's better at killing targets that are broadside with decreased chances to ricochet and over-pen. But the Belfast has HE which is "op" when you are sitting in smoke causing multiple fires. They are both situational and have their moments of brilliance from time to time.

I have about 55% WR at 250 battles with the belfast, and it really comes down to attention to detail. You have to be highly aware of minor details and how to exploit situations on the map.

*Where are enemy dds?
*Any enemies have radar?
*CVs are a major factor
*How to use HE to efficiently torch bbs?
*Which allies are idiots?

*Is someone spotting enemies if I smoke?

I always have one eye on the map and you cannot afford to get tunnel vision in this ship, if you are spotted in the wrong place you will be instant swiss cheese.

I just can't wait to get my tier 5 concealment skill

I find the Belfast is much worse at dealing with enemy BBs. You might set a bunch of fires, but those won't finish off a wounded enemy before they put a volley into you. Also enemy cruisers are less likely to eat a massive set of citadels from you when they turn to torp you. It has some nice toys, but it has to be much more passive all game, I think, whereas the other British cruisers allow you to pounce on enemies offering you their broadside or stopped inside your torp range.

The radar is nice, but it's only 25 seconds, so you really need other people to be shooting your target when you reveal it.

I have 81 battles in Belfast and 53 in Fiji.

Average damage 44k vs. 52k.

Average kills 0.8 vs 1.2.

Win rate in Fiji is much higher but sample size is too small.

Belfast gives you radar and HE in exchange for torps and British AP. Turns out torps and Brit AP work much better for me, and I've got a 15-point captain with Concealment Expert and skill set tailored for Belfast. Do not have CE for Fiji yet, but I moved the Belfast captain to Edinburgh and reset the skills for that ship.

If you are eating salvoes from bbs you are doing it wrong. Only time you should be engaging bbs is pounding it with HE from smoke or 13k plus out, or closer if they are distracted (sometimes I put AP salvoes in broadsides and do a ton of damage, but highly situational).

I skipped the Fiji because I have the Belfast, but I find I do better in both the Leander and the Edinburgh than I do in the Belfast and Perth. The torps combined with the RN AP just seems to be so effective.

I have both and have been experiencing the exact same thing.

I just feel Fijis very easy and immense capabilities to do immense damage makes her an incredibly strong ship when I play her. Belfast is a lot more well rounded, and while that can help those who are not familiar with the quirks of the british CL line, it does not really help those who have gotten the standard CLs down on pat. Belfast while she does have that fear factor of radar, hydro and smoke doesn't actually have that much of a deterrent at close range to enemy Cruisers and BBs due to having meh shells and no torps.

Belfast might be lot more lenient to beginners, but Fiji is the better ship for those who have experience and knowledge.
