It's not every day you see a Ryujo ram a DD.  I mean I was chasing after the DD in my Atlanta, I think it was a Hasataru, but this Ryujo I see him getting dead close to the DD and I had to stop firing or hit the carrier and next I know, BAM!  Rams the DD and gets diehard.

My jaw hit the floor. To that carrier driver, you had big balls of steel on that one bro. Hat's off to you.

udVvh2M.jpgA picture of the carrier sailing away after ramming the DD. And just proof that I am not lying about the ram!

My props to the Ryujo, Balls of steel bro.

Wouldn't getting closer to the DD make more sense because of arming distance?

Seems like a strictly logical play brobro, not just bravery.

Still a gutsy logical move.

Seen this 2 or 3 times. Once or twice I rammed CVs to kill them when they were the last enemy ship just for fun. But it is a difficult and ballsy maneuver, never pulled it of myself in my few and far between CV battles.

It takes guts just to move carriers towards enemy...

The arming distance on DD torpedoes is also very, very small.

Still, one hell of a play by the Ryujo (and an equally massive "Derp!" moment from the DD!).

Not really, arming distance is pretty close, easy enough for a DD to get far away enough away to arm, and once he does that, being so close means you're probably going to eat the whole spread with no room to maneuver.

Well Brohk, I think he was more paying attention to the Atlanta chasing him down(me) than he was to the Carrier. Cause he reacted to it I think 15 seconds before the ram. He was still in a torp reload as he'd tried to torp me. Infact that DD said "be thankful carrier, the Atlanta saved the day."

Yes, but it's a CV. It could either get close and have a small chance of being inside arming distance or run and eat the whole spread anyway. That's why its a ballsy move. Ryujo ain't no puss.

Well another point I just remembered, I actually in my last salvo before the ram got a rudder hit. So that DD for that split second couldn't maneuver very well. But still we were on Fault line at cap B as you can see. Any CV driver would of ducked behind the island and ran away. Not this guy. All go, no quit big balls Ryujo. I still can't believe it.

A while back on Straight I watched a Minakaza chase a Ryujo. The poor destroyer could not land a torpedo to sink an island.

I had died getting 5 kills so was watching my team lose the match. So when I saw the destroyer getting very close to our carrier I told the CV to break check the dd. To the Ryujo's credit he slammed it into reverse and the destroyer rammed the cv from behind. We lost that match but watching a carrier get Die Hard by break checking a DD was well worth it. I almost fell over laughing. :D

Some time ago playing my Langley as quite a new player, I ran aground trying to avoid a destroyer.  (We weren't doing so hot that match)  While backing up he got too close,  I rammed him in REVERSE, sank him, and survived.  Totally surprised me - wish I had that replay.

I did something similar on North in (fittingly) my North Carolina. I charged a Minekaze ("fail" division) in smoke on the C cap near the end of the match and he launched within inches of my hull. *CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK* His team eviscerated the poor guy for launching that close and I finished him off with secondaries. Pulling this off is extremely rare though and while it requires nerves (and balls) of steel, it really depends more on the destroyer player making the mistake. If that Minekaze had waited even a half second more he would have left me a crippled ship.

Honestly, I would have never gotten that close as a DD, thats just asking for trouble. staying at 3km to 4km to launch torps is about as close as I'd like to get lol

But yeah, hats off to that CV captain. Balls of steel on that guy. :honoring:

I was one of those DD's once several thousand games ago. I can't remember which DD I was in or what the CV was but I was approaching for a torp run and he was coming full speed at me. I just didn't realize his intent and tried to break off but got shoehorned.

Such a derpy moment for me. Has never happened again and I don't expect it ever will. Some lessons from shamings you can remember forever...

Yeah, the T8 and up have so much armour and so many secondaries its actually quite fraught  for a destroyer to try. Anything less than full health and it is not likely to work.
