It's dangerous ground.  The Force Awakens was meant to show that Disney was bringing Star Wars back to its roots, but they went too far.  Rogue One needs to show that they can differentiate themselves as well, or it'll be similarly received.

I'm excited. Some of the trailer dialogue doesn't sound too good in the context they have been presented, but I did like the clips that I saw from the actual movie.

I am curious to what you mean by "Back to its roots"

There were a few people several weeks ago, that actually said that they think FA was a RE-do of the starwars franchise... all the while not having a clue that it was actually the 7th of three MORE sequels..

but FWIW I grew up starwars... I will most likely DIE with it as well,

But in the starwars universe there are people that LIKE stuff that others do not...

It is an ENTIRE world, an not many people have all the same opinions and reasons they like or hate things in the movies...

Being able to have an open mind about every movie (because it seems that every sequel puts holes in the previous movie, LOL) will help make the movies more enjoyable from an "entertainment" standpoint, while trying to at least Keep with a significant story line..

I am sure parts ot RO will be enjoyable... including a grand appearance from the Dark lord of the Sith himself...

One of my all time favorite villains....

I mean what is NOT to love about Vader....

I'm looking forward to Rogue One, but the OP's avatar is likely just going to be another power-hungry Imperial officer who fails to adapt their strategies for the good guys and is more interested in failing to reach the power and status of Darth Vader, Grand Moff Tarkin, and Grand Admiral Thrawn.

I aM excited to see Donnie Yen in this movie....

seems odd to cast one the THE best Kung Fu legends to exist in it, but hey, if Forrest Whitaker can be in it, why not....

(IP MAN, for anyone who has not seen it yet, is phenomenal, 2 and 3 too)

I'm just gonna say it... the tropical planet they go to has a shield around it and the only way in is through a protected gate.

If the code to open it isn't 1-2-3-4-5 I will be very disappointed.

Yup. I'm pretty stoked. I think it's pointless to compare movies, or hold any of the more recent SW ones to the ridiculously high standard the original trilogy (episodes 4-6) set. Everyone's going to have their preferences and enjoy some movies more than others.

All I know is that decades ago I remember saying " I want more AT-ATs!!!!!"  36 years later, it seems like my wish has been granted.

Thump..........................thump...........................thump..........................thump............................

What I mean is that George Lucas tried to break away from the traditional Star Wars formula with the prequel films, and they were not very well-received.  The first thing Disney needed to do with The Force Awakens was prove to the fanbase that they weren't going to "Disnify" it too much.  Problem is, a lot of people felt that they were too cautious, saying that TFA was basically A New Hope, but rehashed.

And having seen it a second time... They're not exactly wrong.  The problem is finding a good balance between remaining faithful to the franchise and breaking new ground.

LOL!

Trench Run v2.0

Death Star v20.0  BIGGER IS BETTER WITH THE SAME WEAKNESS

There were a bunch of elements I loved with TFA but seeing rehashes of those scenes made me cringe.  Seeing a planet sized Super-Duper-Mega-Death Star was funny, too.  Especially for the First Order which is not of the same size, power of the Galactic Empire with its resources.

When the first Rogue One trailer hit I was pretty excited for it.  Classic Rebels vs Empire.  Stormtroopers, X-Wings, TIEs, Star Destroyers.  I only hope it is as good as the trailers make it out to be.  I still remember how good and exciting those Prequel Trailers were.  Most especially the lead up hype for The Phantom Menace.  And most especially the disappointment I felt after seeing TPM and the hoops I had to jump through to catch the midnight premier where I was at.

I'm totally not into Star Wars in any way shape or  form but I think this movie looks pretty well made, one can only hope it sets the standard for things to come better than Ep IVVII: An even newer hope for the force awakens

What's your source? The last I checked, Ilum had been basically turned into Hell by the Empire stripping it bare trying to get all the kyber crystals on it.

Said the guy with Commander Cody as his avatar. Either you're being sarcastic or you're lying.
